Every night before I sleep
Here is what I pray
Father be the driver let me be the car
And lead me on my way
In religion there are many different rules
We don't know which is right
The Father is the only one I trust
To lead me to the light
So many times I doubt myself
I don't know if I'm right or wrong
But then I hear the Fathers words
It helps me to be strong
Remember the words your pray
Your inspiration comes from me
I would never let you down
I know things you can't possibly see
My words have moved so many people
But those words are not from me
Had I not put my faith in Him
I'd be too blind to see
Each night before I go to sleep
This prayer I always pray
Father be the driver let me be the care

There were things I badly wanted
Things I never got
Looking back now He knew
What was good for me and what was not
Had I gotten those things
I longed for desperately
It would have been a disaster
I just wasn't ready
I was living in a world of dreams
Thinking I knew what was right
But because He knew what was best for me
He kept me in the light
Was my life a perfect picture
Not at all my friend
I was sometimes down and out so bad
I dreamed about the end
Sometimes He takes away what you have to protect you
Sometimes to guide your way
Don't run after what you lost
Trust Him to show you the way
There were things I badly wanted
Things I never got
Looking back I know He knew
What was good for me and what was not
