Amends

She couldn't tell exactly why she had agreed to do this. It was all Locke's stupid idea in the first place. If she was smart, she would have...she would have what exactly? What would she do? Not go through with it. Unfortunately, if they planed on getting the airship they so desperately needed, then she would have to.

Out of the corner of her eye she could spot Locke watching her. She couldn't be sure, but he appeared to be smiling. Unsure of what to make of that, Celes ignored it. Clearing her throat loudly, she began to sing.

Oh my hero, so far away now.

Perhaps this is for the best. Humiliated though I may be right now, at least I am helping. I owe it to the world after all that I have done as a General...

Will I ever see your smile?

I can see it so clearly though. You think that I look nice, you saved me, but it was only on account of your lost love...

Love goes away, like night into day.

I think you know that. I think I do too. Nothing is ever clear cut and defined.

It's just a fading dream.

I wish my dreams would fade. All my troubles over the empire. Everything that I've done.

That Emperor Gestahl and Kefka will continue to do.

I'm the darkness, you're the stars.

I can't help but wonder, would you have saved me otherwise?

Our love is brighter than the sun.

If I hadn't of reminded you of her, would you have still aided me to freedom or left me there to my fate?

For eternity, for me there can be,

You trust me. Cyan doesn't like me, who could blame him? Yet you do. Why? I have given you no reason to.

Only you, my chosen one...

I hate this! I can not stand having to dress up like this and parade about on stage.

Must I forget you? Our solemn promise?

I'm a general, not a floozy.

Will autumn take the place of spring?

I'll always be one, I guess, in my mind, unless I truly work to change that

What shall I do? I'm lost without you.

Everything I've done...and you trust me at that. You trust me, you protected me.

Speak to me once more!

I'll make amends for it all. As soon as Setzer makes his entrance...

Come, Maria. Follow my lead.

Gladly, but only if it will no longer led me astray...

End

Just a short little drabble I thought up after playing Final Fantasy VI. Celes is one of my favorites and I like analyzing her character. I found her turning from the empire as well as her and Locke's relationship truly fascinating. Since we only have so much to go on, I figured a little insight about her thoughts and feelings would be interesting to explore, especially during the scene at the opera, which is by far my favorite scene of the game. I only hope I did her character justice.
