October is Jily month, and in honor of that I will be posting a short drabble or oneshot everyday, featuring a different scenario.

Lily pressed her lips tightly together, trying to conceal the laughter bubbling into her mouth. James looked so frustrated as he flipped through his History of Magic textbook. One hand was intermittently jumping up to his hair while the other was splattered with ink.

"Do you need any help?" she asked, biting back her amusement.

"Yes!" James sat back, running a hand through his hair once more. "I don't get anything that Binns taught us today. It's all so bloody confusing!"

"All right." Lily rummaged through her bookbag before pulling out a set of parchment slips bound together by a hair tie.

"What are those?" asked James curiously.

"Flashcards," she replied. "On one side is a vital vocabulary term or phrase that I found in the book. On the other side is its definition or explanation. If you just study these, you'll be good on the major events that we've studied so far this term. Remus and I made these together, so his set is identical to mine."

James's face lit up. "That's a brilliant idea, Lily!" he exclaimed, taking the cards from her. "Now I don't have to keep looking through the book. Do you have sets for all classes?"

"Yup," she confirmed, a smile curving her lips. "I'm actually making one right now for the upcoming Charms exam. If you want to help me—" She gestured to the scraps of parchment on the table in front of her.

James had a beaming smile on his face. "I'd love to! In fact, I'll make Transfiguration ones for you, since you need help," he agreed enthusiastically.

She was surprised and grateful for his kind offering. "That'd be great, thanks."

"No problem. It's all I can do to repay you for your helpfulness. I am lost without you here."

Lily blushed. "It's not that big of a deal," she muttered bashfully, but James didn't hear it.

He checked the gold watch on his wrist and leapt to his feet, alarmed. "Shit, Quidditch practice starts in five minutes. I'll see you later, Lily! Thanks for all of your help!"

He sprinted out of the library. Madam Pince glared over her spectacles. "Potter, for the last time—"

She continued ranting although said person was no longer there. Lily smiled into her lap, her cheeks vermilion.

And for the first time, her heart fluttered.
