I do not own Smallville or any of the characters.
a/n: This just sort of popped into my head and I had to write it.
Chloe sat in the passenger seat while Davis drove. They were heading as far away from Smallville as possible, away from the place Chloe called home. She sat, twirling the chocolate heart lollipop between her fingers. It was just one of the many sweet things Davis did for her when he wasn't a monster on a killing spree. It was one of the reasons Chloe couldn't let Clark send him to the Phantom Zone, because while the monster in Davis belonged there, the sweet, kind paramedic human part, didn't deserve that.
No one else understood, or tried to understand. They only saw Davis as a beast that needed to be put down, like any other animal. Chloe had told them all that she was doing this for Clark, to protect him. They said she was just denying the feelings she had for Davis. Either way, did it really matter? If she was with Davis he wouldn't turn into that monster, so she was doing the right thing, right? She was helping protect mankind, helping to save the world.
Chloe twisted in her seat to look at Davis. It wasn't his fault that he was a monster. That was something he had been born as. It wasn't fair to punish the man for the beast's mistakes. The man had never done anything wrong. He saved peoples lives, he helped save Olivers life when he was poisoned. He had helped Chloe herself when she lost her memories. Why couldn't anyone else see the good in him? How could they want to kill him so easily?
As she sat staring at him, she tried to imagine her life without him, and it hurt. It really killed her to think of a life without him. For there to be a day when she couldn't hear his laugh or see his smile. For a time to come when they wouldn't be able to spend time together. She now realized that she did love him, and she was not ashamed. You couldn't help who you fell in love with, and she wouldn't change it if she could. She loved him. And it may make her sick in some way, but the day he killed those men who where sent to kill her, she had felt loved. Sure she didn't want them to die, but what did it say about his feelings for her when he would kill for her? Maybe it did make her sick, but she wanted to be loved, she needed it.
After years of being in love with Clark, and him not noticing or caring, Chloe had thought she found her soulmate in Jimmy. She had even married him. But he abandoned her, left her because he blamed her for all his problems. He hated her for taking Davis's side over his. It hadn't even been like that at all, but he didn't care. He still left her, and Clark, her best friend in the world, took his side over hers.
But even during all of that, Davis was there for her. He would do anything for her. He loved her. And she loved him back. She choose the darkness instead of the light, and if given the choice, she would do it again. She had once thought it was being infected by Brainiac that brought about her feelings, but she had been wrong. It was her, all of her, who loved Davis.
She smiles back at him when he smiled at her and he took her hand in his. Yes this was right, this was how it should be...screw the rest of the world.
