Kagome was about to lose her mind. She had babysat other people's children before so she thought nothing of keeping Miroku and Sango's twin girls, Etsuko and Yasuko, and their newborn son, Takeo, while the couple went off to enjoy a couple hours alone at the hot spring.
Inuyasha had gone off to a neighboring village to help slay a lesser demon, leaving Kagome alone for the day. She had stopped in to visit her friends when they asked her if she would mind keeping the kids for a short while so they could bathe and relax a bit. She had felt badly for them seeing how tired they both were, and readily agreed. How bad could it be? She had no idea.
Thankfully Takeo was fast asleep. Sango and Miroku had left him to nap immediately following a hearty meal, which left Kagome with keeping an eye on the girls. They were barely 3 years old but had energy the likes of which she had never seen! They were into everything.
Etsuko had lowered herself into the fire pit, smearing ash all over her face and arms. While Kagome tried to clean her up Yasuko had started poking the baby with a stick, causing him to stir. When Kagome let go of Etsuko to save the baby, she knocked over a stack of bowls causing a huge clatter. Both girls started at the noise then ran over and started banging the bowls together. Kagome was beginning to wonder how Sango kept the twins busy all day when a clap of thunder was heard overhead and a cooling summer shower began outside.
The sound of the rain on the roof gave Kagome what she considered a brilliant idea. Making sure Takeo was settled, she grabbed both girls by the hands and drug them outside. The rest of the afternoon was spent exploring the fabulousness that was mud and puddles created by summer rain.
