Stalemate: The Prologue
By Adament
Ever written a story just because you liked the name? Well, that's what this is. *Shounen-ai alert*

Life is overwhelming
Heavy is the head that wears the crown
I'd love to be the one to disappoint you when I don't fall down
Limp Bizkit, 'Rearranged'

I panted, wiping the sweat from my face. I hated to admit it, but this boy was truly my worthy adversary. He was out of breath as well, and blood trickled down onto his face from a small cut on his forehead. "Give up?" he asked.
"Never." I tried to keep up my game face, but it failed. My head was pounding, my vision was blurred, and I was battered and bruised. I fell then, cursing myself in my head.
He surprised me then, because he was beside me in a moment. He knelt, stroking my cheek gently. I flinched at the sudden show of affection. "Ken, we're getting nowhere. This has got to stop."
I pulled away from his touch. "Don't call me that! I'm the Emperor now, Ken no longer exists."
"Yes, he does. You're not made of stone, you know. You have genuine emotions, and that's something the Digimon Emperor could never have."
I ashamed myself with my next action. Before I could stop it, a single tear slipped out of my eye. I wiped it away, but it had done its damage. He looked at me, pity gleaming in his eyes. I stood, as if I had been healed by my anger. "We're at a stalemate for now, but that will change. One of us must eventually win, and I guarantee it will be me."
He smiled, a tear glistening in his eye. "I wouldn't doubt it." And with that he was gone.
I let a smile grace my face. "Goodbye, Takeru," I said to the calm night sky.

AN: Oy veh, this was originally Kensuke. . . then Kenchi. . . but I've never written a Kenkeru before, and I plan to write a fic on every possible romance, so here it is! Part 1 coming soon.
