As the Lady of the West Kagome led a more privileged existence with servants to handle the vast home she shared with Sesshomaru. She birthed Sesshomaru's children and was afforded the time to nurse them to her breast and raise them to be as great as their father. She taught them compassion, consideration, kindness, and mercy. When the heir to the western lands was born, she was not surprised the pup resembled his father in more ways than one. Kagome often reflected back on that day, thinking a wrinkle in time had been created and she had birthed a carbon copy of her mate herself.

Hanyou though he may have been, Yoshirou was as much like his father as his father was himself. The child was open to Kagome from his birth but as he got old enough to follow his father around, emulating his actions, he slowly closed himself off to her. Sesshomaru allowed the boy to become a permanent part of his daily routine, reasoning with the boy's mother he was undertaking his training to become the future Lord of the West. Not one to generally go against her mate's wishes, Kagome had retreated to their bedchamber, found her backpack and removed her history book. Meeting with Sesshomaru in the War Room, as she dubbed it, she excused Yoshirou to play with his siblings and slid the screen closed behind him. Turning, she settled next to her mate and handed him the book.

"This is a history book from my time, Sesshomaru. I used it in my education. Before you continue Yoshirou's training please read it."

"I shall do as you request, Kagome." She kissed his cheek and left him to his studies.

Four days later Sesshomaru joined Kagome in their garden as she was watching over the children at play. Returning her book to her, he sat next to her under her favorite sakura tree.

"I have read your book. I understand that, in time, all that we know now will no longer exist. In its place vast cities will grow and buildings will be erected, eating up all the land, not just my own, and there will be a government to rule."

"This is correct, Sesshomaru. My reason for telling you this is not to sway you from teaching Yoshirou all you find important in being a fine ruler. I am requesting you change your focus and teach all our children all you have to share. I also want time for them to be taught by me as well. Their lives will be long and they need to be well versed in all ways of life."

Kissing her head, Sesshomaru replied, "Fear not, Kagome. Teach them what you wish, however, I have a simpler solution, allowing us both to enjoy and educate the children."

"And that would be?" Kagome asked, curious.

"I shall simply live forever and protect my lands, my children and my mate." Sesshomaru left Kagome sitting in the gardens, her mouth hanging open.
