Breathe [2 a.m.]

Rain was lightly hitting the rooftop and the moisture in the air was lightening up into a fog outside of the building in which Rachel resided in. She sleepily looked at the ceiling. The rain's reflection mixed with the light of the moon made it look like the drops were dancing. She had tried hard to stay awake and count all of the little dancers but her eyelids betrayed her and started to close as she drifted into a peaceful state of sleep.

It couldn't have been more than 15 minutes before she heard a small beep on her night stand. She opened one of her eyes and saw that her cell phone was lit up a bright red color. She groaned and reached to see what the message was.

Click. "Rachel, its Hood. I know it's late but there something that I need to tell you. Call me when you get this." She sighed and threw on some sweat pants and a t-shirt then punched in Hoods number, one that she knew by heart.

"Hello?" a deep silky voice was heard on the other end of the phone, one that Rachel wasn't used to. She contemplated on whether or not she dialed the wrong number, she figured that she woke him like he did her, but she wasn't in the mood for these games tonight.

"Hood." She said flatly. "It's 2 am what's so important it couldn't wait until morning?" She had a bit of an edge to her voice.

On the other end of the phone, Jacob swallowed at the edge in her voice then continued. "Well…I'm going to be honest with you Rachel."

'Oh great,' She thought, 'what now…' but what he said next made her heart skip a few beats.

"Rachel, I love you." Special Agent Young was speechless, before even thinking she involuntarily responded "I love you too Jacob." At this point she was walking around her apartment. A few moments of silence seemed to pass them by as they both took in what just happened.

A few second later she heard him say "Rachel." barely audible she said "Yes?" he said "Open you door." She looked to her door and opened the locks, feeling like she was breaking down the walls that always seemed to surround them and saw Jacob standing there. She let out a gasp when they embraced. He threw his arms around her and she put her arms around his neck. He then rested his forehead against hers, her back resting gently against the door frame; he whispered

"I don't care what the FBI thinks. This is what I want, and I know you want this too. Let's give this a chance." She looked up to meet his penetrating gaze, his eyes burning into her soul, and every ounce of her was enjoying where they were now.

"And here I thought you were in danger." She started. He stiffed a small laugh then said "Only the danger that I was the only one feeling something."

"You're not alone." She said, firmly but coated with concern and love. She rested her head on his chest and breathed in his scent. He was a little wet from the rain but she didn't mind in the slightest bit, mixed with a smoky honey, he smelled like her own personal heaven.

She then opened her eyes and said "This is one assignment I'm never leaving." There was a sparkle in Jacob's eye and the contours of his mouth slightly frowned into a pouting expression when he said "I'm an assignment?" She smiled a warm smile and had a mischievous look glimmering in her eyes she said

"You're much more than that, but were not telling the FBI that." As she pulled him back into the vacant apartment, he smiled back matching her expression and they decided that they were going to put their fears behind them, while enjoying what they had as they closed the apartment door behind but opening so many more doors but for now they were alone together in their bliss of love and that's all they wanted.
