Title: Holding On
Summary: A slight twist on a scene in Jeremy's house during "Tabula Rasa." Spoilers for the episode are present.
Notes: When Peter stops time, there's a light from the shotgun Jeremy has fired. I assume that it is the muzzle flash or something, but then I wondered what if Peter was seeing the sound of the gunshot, meaning that he still retained Emma's ability?
"Noah!" Peter shouted, shoving Bennet back and putting himself in the line of fire.
Jeremy fired the shotgun, and Peter instinctively closed his eyes.
He opened them again and saw that time had stopped. He stared at the frozen scene before him, his eyes on the golden orb of light that was the sound of the gunshot. The sight made him smile, for it was proof that for the first time in weeks, he had successfully managed to hold on to more than one ability.
His happiness was short-lived as he felt something wet on his chest. Looking down, he realized that he had been too late to stop the bullet from hitting him. Looking behind him, he saw the spray of blood—his blood—caused by the exit wound.
His breathing grew labored, and with a gasp, Peter collapsed to the floor, losing his control over time and space. As the world snapped back into motion and blood ebbed from his wound, thoughts raced through Peter's mind.
I won't be able to save Hiro. I won't see Nathan or Mom again. Wish I could have made things right with them first.
Above him, he heard Noah saying something, but couldn't catch the words.
Noah… watch out for Claire. I'm sorry I won't see her graduate.
Bright lights exploded behind his vision as he tried to draw breath.
Lights…they're beautiful. Wish I could show Emma. I wish I could see her, talk to her again. I wish I could tell her…
His breathing almost stopped after he gave a last gasp, his face a waxy pallor. His chest was numb by the time Jeremy laid his hands on it, but Peter saw the lights fade from his vision, and the world came back into focus as his breathing grew stronger.
Oxygen came flooding back into his lungs, and his color returned. Regaining consciousness, he scrambled to sit up, his shock turning into joy.
He was alive.
He could save Hiro.
He could spend more time with his family.
He could see Emma again.
He laughed.
