The Lightning Thief

My book report book is The Lightning Thief written by Rick Riordan. The 3 main characters are Percy, Grover, and Annabeth. Percy is a 6th grader demi-god and is the son of Posiedon god of watery stuff.

Grover is a half man-half goat creature and is Percy's satyr which is kinda like a guardian. Annabeth is also a demi-god and she is the daughter of Athena Godes s of wisdom.

The story takes place in 2006. Percy, Grover, and Annabeth's journey takes them all across America from New York City to Santa Monica, California. They visit cities such a St. Lois, Denver, and Las Vegas on their journey.

At the begining of the story Percy is at camp half-blood a camp for demi-gods. While there he is accused of stealing Zeus's master bolt. He is then offered a quest to see if he can prove them worong. Before Percy leaves camp half-blood he is given a sword named Riptide. Once Percy leaves camp he, Annabeth, and Grover have to fight various monsters such as the furries, Medussa, and the Chimera on top of the Gateway Arch. After that the group goes to Denver where they meet Ares the god of war and help him by retrieving his shield. Then the group makes it to Santa Monica and goes to the underworld where they fond out that Hades has not stolen the master bolt. After leaving the underworld the group discovers that Ares has stolen the master bolt. Percy defeats Ares and returns Zeus's master bolt. THE END

I have 3 favorite parts of the book. The first part is when Percy jumps from the top of the Gateway Arch which is just insane in my oppinion. The second part is when Percy and Annabeth retrieve Ares' shield because it shows that they really like eachother. My third and final favorite part is when Percy fights Ares. Demi-god versus God, one- on- one, all or nothing, winner takes all, etc.

Overall I have no critisism of the book I find the story very gripping, with lots of action. However I did have one problem with the book. Be aware that this is a personal problem and should not affect you. The problem for me was that everyone worships the Greek Gods and I'm a Christian so I had a hard time grasping the concept that the Greek Gods were in charge, all high and mighty.

Overall I think that the book is awesome. It has a detailed, gripping plot full of twists and turns. It has memorable characters that most people can relate to.

Finally it has lots of action.
