SLAM! The coffee mug hit the desk so hard the handle snapped in her hand. Coffee sprayed from it all over both of them. The heated argument they had been having suddenly dissolved into fits of laughter.
"Well, that's the first time that's ever happened," Captain Janeway said wiping the tears from her eyes.
"We've managed to break just about everything else on this ship, but that is a new one," Commander Chakotay said grinning.
"What were we arguing about?"
"I don't think it matters, do you?"
"No," she replied wiping coffee off his face. "I think we should change."
"Or get made fun of the rest of the shift," Chakotay said looking down at his uniform that was soaked through with lukewarm coffee.
"Don't suppose I can convince you to have dinner with me tonight?" she offered as they left the ready room.
"Only if there is no coffee."
She smacked his shoulder playfully and stepped into the turbo lift with him.
