Not really, here's the real story…
Maxwell was just sitting around doing nothing, (nothing except being bored out of his mind!) so he decided to take out his notebook… which he didn't have, because in chapter -999,999,999,999,999,999,999,999*, Doppelganger stole it from him. So, after 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 chapters, he finally decided to go get his notebook back.
*chapter -999,999,999,999,999,999,999,999 doesn't exist…
