Chapter 1

The blizzard roared and the climb was brutal. I stop to rest in a small niche where the cold isn't as brutal. I look around the stony face of the wall and remember when I started this adventure almost ten years ago.

::Ten years earlier::

Iron Island, just off the shore of Canaclave City. I swam across the roaring tides on a stormy afternoon to get there. I climbed on shore and wandered into a cave. The storm blew over some rocks at the entrance of the cave. I was trapped.

I traveled through the cave and found no exit. I became frantic, scared. I was lost, hungry, alone. A Steelix ambushed me, it was angered, enraged. It attacked me and I escaped into a nook where it couldn't reach. For nearly a day the monster stalked my hiding spot and I stared into its glowing red eyes. The second day it left me and went off on its own. I found it ok to leave the spot and I wandered around a bit more.

Out of nowhere a shadow claw came at me and got me on the right side of my face. I held myself fast as the jackal-like creature came into the dim light. It was in the same position as I was, alone and scared. "Hey." I called out to it and then extended my hand. From then on our bond was formed. Riolu.

::Present::

My companion was huddled up against me in the niche and kept itself warm with the scarf I gave it. I had a fire going and a Bidoof was for dinner. I picked up an unusual taste during my time in the cave, the Riolu introduced me to it as we had to survive four weeks within the cave before someone came to rescue me. We also removed the Steelix from its existence before we left, it took both of us to get it done.

We've been through a lot lately, I'm almost sixteen years of age, and Riolu has been with me for ten of those years. We've taken on gyms and contests all over Sinnoh, well not that many contests, she didn't like dressing up as much as other pokemon and she tended to be much more aggressive than most. The gyms were won quickly and swiftly as they could with Riolu's strength at its peak. She wouldn't give up and still wouldn't even now.

The cold was brutal, but Professor Rowan thought I could be of use up here, especially after what happened just a month ago with Team Galactic. He feared the other Teams around the world would see an opportunity in this portal that was left open by the legendary pokemon. I was well known for being quite aggressive in battles, even to the point of being deadly.

I notcied on my way up an Absol that has been stalking us as we've been climbing up. I chose to not go up the normal way, I'd be able to flank the enemy as I arrived. The Absol was a problem though. I didn't know its intentions. It was unnerving.
