Carmilla heard a snap come from behind her. She spun around at the sound. Her heart pounding against her chest, threatening to break through.

She quickly searched for the source of the sound. A tall, dark figure suddenly melted out of the shadows.

Danny stood in front of Carmilla. A bow was held by her side. A quiver full of arrows across her back. Carmilla frowned at the sight. She and Danny had never gotten along but she couldn't see Danny hurting her.

"Xena?" she asked.

Danny reached behind her and grabbed an arrow. She pulled it forward and notched it on the bow string. In one fluid movement, she brought the bow up and drew it back, pointing the arrow straight at Carmilla's heart.

"Xena," Carmilla warned, lifting up her hands and taking a slight step back. Another snap sounded as her boot hit a twig.

Danny didn't waver as she took a deep breath, preparing to shoot.

"Danny?" Carmilla choked out quietly, taking another stumbling step backwards.

Suddenly, Danny let the arrow fly. Carmilla felt it as it hit her right in the chest with a wet, muffled thunk. She stumbled back slightly before falling over, her hands weakly scrabbling at the arrow.

A symphony of dried leaves and twigs rang out as she hit the ground. She stopped struggling with the arrow. It was pointless.

She watched Danny turn and walk away without so much as a backwards glance. All Carmilla could do was look up at the small patch of stars that broke through the canopy of the trees and wish she could see Laura one last time.

Maddie ran through the trees. Dodging branches and roots left and right.

Finally, she burst into the little space where Carmilla lay, dying. Maddie tried to keep a cap on her anger. Getting angry wouldn't help Carm.

She quickly got to Carmilla's side and started to pick her up.

"Laura," Carmilla mumbled.

"You'll see her soon, Carm," Maddie responded, picking her up and wrapping her arm around her to help her out of the woods. "Cause she's the only one who can help us now."
