This was actually meant to be my homework today. Somehow, Mai and Zuko got involved in my homework. That's how obsessed I am with Avatar. Exodus means the going out, usually of a large number of people.
Mai and I stood near the edge of the cliff, watching the exodus of homeless fire nation people. Tears were streaming down her face, even though she was usually a resilient person. It took a while for me to notice that my eyes were wet too.
"Should we go down and help?" asked Mai. I knew that she didn't feel like following her own words.
"No," I said quickly. I glanced at Mai again and wondered if she would have a spasm. The last thing I wanted was for Mai to be sprawled on the floor after a heart attack. I had spent practically my entire life looking for love; the one I loved shouldn't die. Not like Iroh.
"I feel guilty," admitted the beautiful young woman, "It's partly our fault that this is happening.
I looked at the leaving crowd of people again, saying nothing. In the distance, mockingbirds sang, the only thing around that seemed to want us to cheer up.
Mai was beautiful in her own way. She was always in the middle of the action, something we shared, being the proud fire nation prince that I am. Not only that but with enough practice, she had even become ambidextrous and had managed to become a shuriken master. Not many got near her now, they were afraid she would perforate them if they got too near with her sharp weapons.
"Let's go, Zuko," said Mai after a while. She grabbed my hand. I might have reddened. Mai wiped away her tears with her delicate, yet strong, hands, pulled me, and led me to where our friends were waiting near the fire I had made just a few minutes ago.
"Where were you?" asked one of our friends.
"Nowhere," I said sorrowfully, remembering my people leaving the burning town.
Water Tribe and Earth Kingdom seldom understood. The fire nation suffered because of the war too.
