Hey! So this is a backstory to my original Character Wastrel, who features in the story Beta, by The-Team-Titans-Writers, of which I am a founding member. I hope you like this, it's gonna be a few chapters, nothing more. Yes, she is a girl, no I am not, but she's the most interesting character I created, and had the coolest power. :P Anyway, R&R! Hope you like it!
It was late out, maybe one or two in the morning.
There was a slight drizzle of rain as the woman walked quickly towards the cemetery, small bundle clutched in her grasp.
She slipped on the wet pavement, nearly falling and dropping the bundle.
The baby wrapped in the cloth cried out into the night, the woman trying her best to keep the child quiet as she ran.
Hearing the men's voices coming closer, she took the baby to the nearest shelter she could find; the cemetery.
Setting her in a patch of tall grass by a tree that still had most of its leaves, the woman ran out of the cemetery the way she came.
She ran straight into the men.
"You know, the boss is gonna be pretty mad that you took his daughter," One said, grabbing her arm roughly.
"Yeah, he wants to have a decent kid to take his throne when he kicks it," the other said.
"Anyway, why would you take the boss' daughter away from him like that?"
"Because she's my daughter too, and she deserves a better life than to be the daughter of a mobster like Sal Valestro ."
"Hey, you respect the boss, alright?" The second thug said, pulling out a pistol with a silencer.
"Woah, Joe you don't need to use that, alright? We can just drag her in."
"No. Sid, she disrespected the boss, we gotta punish her."
"Let him do it. I'd rather die than be dragged back there with that rat."
As Joe pointed the gun at her forehead, he asked, "Any last words?"
"Yeah, tell Sal that Lindsey Morgan sends her regards."
He pulled the trigger, and Lindsey fell to the ground.
"Great, now we have to carry the body back to the trunk. Nice thinking Joe."
"Hey, I got rid of her."
"Yeah, at least we don't have to chase her anymore."
As Sid walked away, he didn't notice Joe's eyes rolling back in his head.
"You have taken the blood of an innocent, you will be punished."
Sid turned around to see Joe pointing the gun towards him.
"Joe, what are you doing?!"
"I am not Joe. Joe is next. I have taken his body from him."
Then the trigger was pulled.
As Sid dropped to the ground, Joe turned the gun on himself, the spirit that was controlling him letting him have just enough control to scream as his own finger pulled the trigger.
The body fell, but a ghostly figure remained.
Wandering back to the cemetery, it spotted the child, still nestled safely in the patch of grass.
She looked up at him, turned her head, and smiled slightly.
He reached down to try and pick her up, thinking it in vain, and was so surprised that he was able to hold her in his intangible hands that he almost dropped her.
"Well hey there, little thing. My name's John, and it looks like my friends and I are gonna have to raise you… Rachel. Rachel Morgan."
The child cooed, and then snuggled up to his chest, falling asleep in the arms of her ghostly new "father".
Let me know what you thought?! Basically, the reason the ghost can pick her up is because she has the metagene for telekinesis and telepathy, so first of all, she can completely understand everything he said, and second, the supernatural influence of the ghost's touch disrupted her telekinetic gene, which is how she gets her powers later. You'll find out in more detail later, or you can read what her power is in the story she was introduced in, Beta. Hope you liked it!
TL205 out, PEACE!
