Hey, guys! This is my very first fanfiction, so I hope it's okay. It's pretty late right now, and I was feeling a little angsty. So I decided, why not write some TFIOS?
Augustus sat at his desk, his eyebrows furrowed slightly as he put his pen to paper, trying his best to concentrate on writing an alternate ending to An Imperial Affliction for his dearest Hazel Grace. It seemed that he quite simply couldn't do it. With a shaky sigh, he briefly closed his dulling blue eyes, remembering that his girlfriend may be coming around soon, if everything was going okay. His cancer was getting worse and, although he still used his cigarette as a metaphor, he was no longer truly in control of death and when it would strike.
"Gus?" The sweet voice of his love filled his ears, causing him to slowly flutter his eyes open when he felt a hand on his bony shoulder. "Gus? Okay?"
He sensed worry in the girl's voice, which caused him to spin around in his chair weakly; looking up at her with the same half smile he used on the first day they met. "Hazel Grace. How are you?"
Hazel almost sighed in relief, leaning down to give her boyfriend a kiss on the cheek, managing a smile as she couldn't help but wrap her arms around his slender figure. Augustus wrapped her up and pulled her against his chest, bringing her down slowly to sit on his 'fake' leg. "Okay," He whispered, swallowing softly. "I'm okay. You're okay. We're both okay."
He felt her nod softly against him until they both parted to look into each-other's eyes. "I'm sorry, Gus. Every day, I just think about how this could be the last time I'll ever—"
Augustus silenced her with a gentle kiss on the lips. "I know, I know. But, Hazel Grace... We can't think about that as of now. Every moment we have together must be cherished; I've known that from the very beginning. I don't want you to feel empty, like at the end of An Imperial Affliction."
She smiled a tiny bit, although her eyes proceeded to tear up. Was this how her parents felt every day? "I love you, Augustus Waters."
"I love you too, incredibly so. Okay will always be our forever, in our own little infinity."
Little did Hazel Grace know, that that would be the last time she would ever see Augustus conscious.
