The boy she loves whispers to the moon, and tiptoes between the constellations. Dancing through the stars with his iridescent wings, she watches the boy with the beautiful features dip between the clouds, entangling himself in strands of nebulae, shaking off beads of celestial light.
The moonlight strikes his slender form in such a way that his body becomes liquid energy.
Peering at him through her binoculars, she can see almost every ripple of muscle that curves beneath his shirt. He has the body of a fighter, the grace of a dancer. He clasps Orion around his waist, dips the Dipper Twins in a smooth waltz; he grasps at the stars with shaking fingers. Awash —ablaze— in silvery seas, lunar magic, and gorgeous, beautiful beautiful beautiful; existing as a natural object of the night, an organic outgrowth of the Witching Hour.
She longs to be up there with him. It sits as a physical ache in her chest, a bittersweet sensation that threatens to turn sour. But she knows her body of dust and granite will only weigh him down, and deny him the alien heat he so desperately longs to taste. So she contents himself with watching him. He is Hers. Her boy of ichor and air.
A smile curls her lips upwards. Watching his splendour, his joy; it's infectious.
She loves him. It sits quietly in her chest, a tiny thrum along the heartstrings, light and deep and meaningful in so many ways.
She loves him, yes. Yes. That's right.
At last, the boy tires. Almost painfully, he disentangles himself from the night sky, and pads softly onto the roof.
She puts her binoculars down. She looks at him.
He looks at her.
And she walks forward in two strides and holds his head in her hands, and gently presses her lips to his neck. I love you, she murmurs against his hot skin.
I love you too, he whispers back, and kisses her on the forehead.
They go back inside.
