Disclaimer: Nope, not mine.

A/N: Just because I saw the episode tonight and couldn't resist. I don't watch this show often, so please make allowances for minor OOC-ness. My take on a Danny/Lindsay relationship.

First Date

On her first real date with Danny Messer, they'd eaten dead insects. Tarantulas in batter, centipedes... not the most romantic dinner in the world, but uniquely them. She'd spent the whole time ribbing him about the fact that he'd bet Mac she wouldn't try the food. "Never bet against a country girl," was the lesson she drilled into his head that night.

"All right, I get it. I promise, it won't happen again." He'd held up his hands in mock surrender, though the affect had been ruined by the wriggling insect that tried to escape down the cuff of his shirt. She'd laughed helplessly, tears in her eyes, as he'd fished for it.

They'd ignored the rest of the team's offer of pizza in Mac's office, and waved as they filed out of the lab one by one (although Stella and Mac left suspiciously close together, and subsequently became the topic of their discussion). Night shift arrived, made disgusted noises about their choice of meal, and left. They'd laughed and stayed until they'd finished all of it.

He'd offered to take her home, and she'd accepted because she was having too much fun to want it to end. He insisted on walking her to her door, cracking a joke about "door to door service," and she'd teased him about his bad pickup lines and his reputation for being a playboy. He'd smiled and told her not to believe everything she heard.

She'd closed the door behind him with a vague feeling of regret, kicking off her shoes and shrugging off her jacket. She'd been surprised a few moments later when there was a knock, and even more shocked to find him there.

"I bet you won't kiss me," he'd said.

She'd grinned and pulled him into her apartment by the lapels of his jacket. "Never bet against a country girl."
