She threw her empty wine glass at the wall, bursting into tears as it shattered. Of course she wasn't crying over a stupid wine glass, she was crying over... HIM.
They'd spent forever ignoring it, indecisive about what to do. They'd put it aside and enjoyed their lives. She knew in the back of her mind that he was leaving, but had chosen to keep quiet. At least, that was, until now.
It was hard to believe that just a few minutes ago, she'd begged him to stay, given up all her dignity and let herself go just for him. She'd done something nobody ever expected her to do. But he'd chosen to put even THAT aside, not listen to her, and go. "I can't do it. I just can't." He'd said, walking out the door without an "I'm sorry" or an "I love you" or even a simple goodbye.
Now she couldn't stop thinking about him, thinking not about all the arguments and disagreements, but about everything they'd done together, everywhere they'd been together, all the people she'd told about him. And he just left. Just. Like. That.
A knock on the door. It was him.
"Come in", she called, trying to look normal. She bent her head down and pretended to read some papers on her desk. But as he stepped into the room, he could tell she'd been crying. And he could tell he'd been grieving. And at that moment, both of their hearts seemed to just stop.
"I..." He began, searching for the words she'd caused him to lose.
"Don't."
"Excuse me?"
"Don't." She said again, finally looking up at him. "Don't pretend you care, don't let me believe you again. Just... Go."
"Diane, I-"
"Kurt. No-"
"Listen to me!" He almost screamed. "Just, listen."
Her eyes widened as she noticed this was a side of him she'd never seen before.
"We can't go on like this."
She let out a hopeless chuckle, rolling her eyes. "Well, we pretty much have to."
"I can't stay away from you, Diane. I spend every waking moment with you on my mind, every time I see something it reminds me of you."
She bent her head down. "I'm sorry, you made your choice."
"Well I'm changing my mind. I'm staying."
She looked back up and her eyes widened for a minute, but she didn't break. She refused the urge to just give in, melt into his arms right that second, and kiss him like she'd been wanting to all night.
"Diane. I can't spend a moment without you. Please, let me stay."
That was it. She new he cared, she knew how much she loved her, she could feel it. She didn't want to give in. He couldn't pull her away that easily. She sat there still, staring at the desperate man in front of her.
"I can't. I'm sorry."
He hung his head low, defeated. Then, some sort of weird realization seemed to hit her. "Kurt?" She whispered.
"Yes?"
She stood up and walked over to him, putting her arms around his neck. "Stay." She breathed.
And with that, he kissed her. It wasn't a kiss of regret, of sorrow, of relief, just love. They both knew that they could never stay away from each other, they knew that they were perfect together. But most importantly, at that moment, they both realized that they'd always be a part of each other's lives.
~THE END~
