A puzzle piece.
It was an odd shape, one befitting a puzzle piece. It looked like it was made out of gold and it glittered in the light coming out of his bedroom window. Nothing particularly impressive about it. So why had it held his attention for a good half an hour since he had first laid eyes on it?
Because the last time he had seen a piece of this particular puzzle, it had been in a pyramid shape. It had also been imbedded in a stone tablet, in a cave, in Egypt, right before a cave-in had buried it under tons of rock and dirt.
How it had managed to appear on his desk at home, in Japan, thousands of miles away, was beyond him.
Rather than trying to reason out how a chunk of metal had gotten out of the puzzle, through the rocks, and all the way into his house, Yugi Muto stared at it. If he stared hard enough, maybe it would just sit up and tell him what it thought it was doing on his desk. Also, if he stared hard enough and though only about the impossibility of a piece of the Millennium Puzzle being on his desk, maybe it would stop the feeling of excitement that was rising in his chest. It was only one piece after all. It didn't mean the rest of the puzzle would turn up. And it certainly didn't mean it had a spirit still inside of it. Of course not. That was just silly. In fact, this piece might not even be there at all. No. That was impossible. He had just gotten up after all. He must not be fully awake just yet. Following this much more likely train of thought, he got up and went downstairs for breakfast.

Well, this marks the first chapter of my new fanfic! This one will have loooooots of chapters. It will have loooooooots of chapters because each chapter will be relatively as long as this one. Ok, probably longer; this one is rather short, even for me. So…stick around, read, and if you like (please!) review! =^-^=
