Prologue: The Golden Flower
This is the story of a lost princess and a wanted criminal. A prisoner and a man on the run. A giver and a thief. Two dreamers.
Long ago, a star from the heavens fell to the earth. This star created a beautiful flower, golden and pure. This flower possessed magical properties. It could heal the injured and strengthen the weak, even save a life.
Now, a very vain, old man came upon this gift from the heavens one fateful night. Seeing the magic it contained, Jose Gothel hoarded it and kept it for himself so he could be young eternally and all he had to do was sing a special song…
"Flower, gleam and glow
Let your power shine
Make the clock reverse
Bring back what once was mine
Heal what has been hurt
Change the Fates' design
Save what has been lost
Bring back what once was mine
What once was mine…"
Centuries past and the prosperous Heartfilia Kingdom grew. The king and queen were wonderful rulers and cared for their subjects deeply, but, as fate might have it, disaster struck.
The queen, heavily pregnant, was deathly ill. No one could cure her and she was not getting any better.
That's when people start looking for a miracle.
Not sure of what exactly they were searching for, the citizens went out in search of a cure. When about to admit defeat, a search party stumbled upon the magical golden flower. Uprooting it, they took it back to the castle for the queen.
The flower could have helped the queen, but decided to heal the new life inside her instead and soon after came a healthy, beautiful baby girl. The kingdom, mourning their beloved queen, lit floating lanterns in honor of the queen and celebrating the new life of the princess. They let them fly in great masses into the night sky, sparkling like bright stars.
While the kingdom was now at peace, there was still someone very unhappy with the latest turn of events.
Jose was furious that his precious flower had been taken away and was now gone. So, sneaking past the guards, Jose broke into the castle, seeking his flower. Singing his song as he went, searching for any golden glow the flower might give off. When instead finding a baby girl with glowing blond hair, he grinned maliciously to himself. He had found his flower. Taking a pair of rusty, old scissors, Jose cut off a lock of the little girl's hair only to find it stop glowing and lose all of it's magic abilities. Finally, he decided taking the girl was his best option and this time he was going to make sure she kept hidden this time.
Jose kept the girl in a tall tower hidden in the woods. He named her Lucy, after the light of the flower, and he raised her as his own, never letting her go outside and never letting her talk about the outside world, but that didn't stop her from dreaming. For every night on her birthday, glowing lights would appear on the horizon. She'd sit and watch them through her window, wanting with all her heart to go and see them herself.
Wanting to know when she was finally going to be allowed outside. Wanting to know when she would be awarded her freedom. Wanting to know when her life would finally begin.
