Hi, everyone! So, this is a really short little one-shot I wrote while listening to 60's on 6 XM radio while traveling to Massachusetts. The song Percy sings is the Herman's Hermits version of "(What A) Wonderful World", which was originally by Sam Cooke. Hope you enjoy!
Annabeth's POV
"Thank you, Connor! Performing next will be... Percy!" Will practically screamed into the microphone, calling Percy to center stage.
Every once in a while, the Apollo cabin would get it into their heads that the thing camp needed more than anything was a karaoke night. Helpless to stop it; whenever this happened, the rest of camp begrudgingly trooped down to the amphitheater and braced for a night of torture.
A few years ago, Chiron made a rule that, for the sanity of everyone, only one camper from each cabin has to sing. The rule is a huge relief to most people, unless - like Percy - you're the only one in your cabin. In which case you're stuck singing every single time.
Percy is usually a pretty good sport about it, and is actually a surprisingly good singer.
Ever since Percy and I started dating, the Aphrodite cabin has been bugging him to 'serenade me with a love ballad'. It hasn't happened yet, and I doubt it ever will. He did sing to me once, on our anniversary, but that was in private. Still, you never know.
"Hi, um," began Percy. "So, um, I kinda forgot the name of the song I'm going to be singing. But the Apollo cabin has the Karaoke track, so hopefully this'll work out. I heard it a couple weeks ago when I went with Paul and my mom to visit Paul's parents. It's from the sixties, and I think it's by Someone-or-other's Hermit-crabs?"
"Anyway, this song reminds me of back when I realized that I liked Annabeth, but was to scared to admit it. Okay, so, yeah - let's get this over with."
The seaweed-brain. I wondered what the song was that reminded him of when we were fifteen.
The music started up, and Percy began to sing.
"Don't know much about history
Don't know much biology
Don't know much about science books
Don't know much about the French I took
But I do know that I love you
And I know that if you loved me too
What a wonderful world this would be
Don't know much about geography
Don't know much trigonometry
Don't know much about algebra
Don't know what a slide rule is for
But I know that one and one is two
And if this one could be with you
What a wonderful world this would be
Now, I don't claim to be an A student
But I'm tryin' to be
For maybe by being an A student, baby
I can win your love for me
Don't know much about history
Don't know much biology
Don't know much about science books
Don't know much about the French I took
But I do know that I love you
And I know that if you loved me too
What a wonderful world this would be
But I do know that I love you
And I know that if you loved me too
What a wonderful world this would be."
Percy left the stage to thunderous applause.
Flopping down next to me, he said, grinning, "Not exactly the love ballad the Aphrodite cabin was hoping for."
"Nope." I popped my 'p', "But that was sweet. Thank you."
With that I gave him a quick peck on the lips, grabbed his hand, and settled in to watch an Ares camper completely desecrate the song they were singing.
