This was written for the Scribbulous challenge at Checkmated. The prompt was Halloween. Its a short drabble

Harry sat down in the great hall and reached for a glass of pumpkin juice. Hallowe'en was one of his favourite days, but it was always a bit of a bad day too. He always took a moment to contemplate his parents.

He liked being at Hogwarts on Hallowe'en. It gave him a connection to his parents that he hadn't had before he'd come to the school. Being in the Great Hall and sharing good food and fun with his friends gave him an opportunity to remember his parents how he wanted to. He liked to think that they had shared the same food and fun with their friends and he spared a moment to smile at the idea.

He liked to think that they had eaten the same pumpkin pasties and fancy ghouls chocolates as he did. He liked to pretend his parents drank the same pumpkin juice and sat underneath the same orange and black decorations. Sometimes he would sit and listen to Ron and Hermione bicker over how many sweets Ron had eaten and pretend his parents had the same argument.

Ron plopped down into the seat next to Harry and immediately reached across him for the plate of pumpkin pasties. Hermione sighed as she sat down too and turned to listen to Professor Dumbledore's speech. Seamus and Dean were arguing over the merits of different sweets and Ginny was laughing at the twins. Everyone was happy and enjoying the magic of the night. Taking a sup of his pumpkin juice, Harry looked around and decided that yes, Hallowe'en was definitely one of his favourite nights of the year.

Authors note: I don't own any of the characters, foods or anything of that sort, it is all JK Rowling's. I did come up with the angsty thoughts in Harry's head in this piece though.
