AN. The lyrics in this are Black Lab's, not mine. If you want to check them out, they're pretty amazing. The song is called Ten Million Years.

Severus walked silently down the lane. It was spring, the birds were chirping, people were laughing, but it didn't break his morose mood. He doubted anything could. In his hand were flowers, the only kind he could really stand to look at after he had met her. He hoped she liked them.

It's such a simple thing

I never felt this way

I have nightmares, I have dreams of you gone

There is something in you I want today

He paused, ignoring everyone around him as he gazed at her. She had always looked so beautiful to him, more than anyone else. Even from their first meeting. Anytime he saw her, he wondered what it would be like if only he hadn't made that mistake. Would he be happy?

I love you more than I should

I would wrap my heard in bands of rosewood

I love you more than I should

I would stay beside you here ten million years

It didn't really matter now, he thought as he gaze shifted to the man standing beside her. She had found someone to love. Maybe he didn't enjoy the thought of her happy with anyone aside from him, but he knew he would rather her happy. Like it mattered now. So many more would die and he had to help one way or the other. He missed her though.

You see yourself in the mirror, yeah

You see yourself at night

You see yourself in the gutter, baby

You see yourself like a star shining bright but I…

He resumed walking, his gaze watching his feet move. He'd been here so many times that he didn't even have to look to know the way. It was sad, he knew, that he held on still even though she was long gone. Still, he couldn't – wouldn't - let go of her. Not now, not ever. His heart beat of her and her alone.

I love you more than I should

I would wrap my heart in bands of rosewood

I love you more than I should

I would stay beside you here ten million years.

Sometimes it drove him made that he had to remember her every time he saw him. It was those eyes –her eyes- that made him realize and remember how much he loved her. Those eyes pulled at him, but, on the boy, angered him because SHE had never been his and never would be.

Every minute, every hour

Every second you take me over

Every night, every day, I wait, I take, I know I take, but…

There were night he dreamt of her. Those were what hurt the most. Not because there were nights he awoke unsatisfied. Even he would admit that he wanted her physically. What made him hurt the most were dreams of the future, ones where it was his child with her eyes, those precious emeralds that spoke volumes of how she felt.

I love you more than I should

I would wrap my heart in bands of rosewood

I love you more than I should

I would stay inside you here ten million years.

He loved her, more than anything. It was moments like these that made him realized it as he gazed at her stone. Pausing for a moment, he merely stood there, staring, clutching the flowers in hands. How much he wished he could undo time. Instead, he set the lilies down, looking at her name. Lily Potter.

Ten Million Years

She had made her choice, just like he had chosen to live on, alone, loving her. Now he knew he'd be joining her…soon enough.

Ten Million Years.
