Author's Note: My first Bleach fiction. I always liked how innocent Renji's love towards Rukia. So pure and untamed. This is just a short drabble, but I am planning to type longer fictions of this pairing.

It was the eyes, he knew that. The eyes could tell anything...
Everything...
Since the days of their childhood, he was running after her... Looking at her from a distance. The distance he could never make through. No matter how faster he ran towards her, it felt like the gap between them never changed. She never saw him, she never understood his feelings. So he never told her.
Wheir ways seperated, putting an even longer distance between two shinigami. He doubted if she remembered his existance at all... But he never stopped feeling the same, when their waves stopped aswell. She forgot his name. He still checked her in the crowds, or sometimes waiting on her door... It was like an obsession, he couldn't make it without seeing her at least once a day. But her eyes never saw him.
And then she fell in love... Renji couldn't express it with words how jealous he was, when he realised Rukia's heart was beating for another man... How it hurt him not to be that man. His efforts was fruitless, he was unvisible for her eyes. He was nothing more than just a friend. He remembered how much drunk he got that night. He was still so jealous... He knew Kaien would never return her feelings, he was already a married man. Renji couldn't help it.
And then... that man was gone, leaving a broken hearted woman behind. Maybe it was the wrong thing, but the red haired shinigami was a bit relaxed of this departure. It didn't change the fact his place in her eyes. She wasn't seeing him.
Now... She was standing beside the orange haired boy, who was looking exactly like the man Rukia fell for. There, her eyes were only seeing what she wanted to see again. And Renji wasn't there. But it was alright. As long as he was able to see her, everything was okay.
The grip on his blade was tightened, everytime Rukia and Ichigo started to argue. He wanted to be the one fighting her. He wanted to be the one taking all of her attention. And when she turned her face at him, there wasn't the same expression when she looked at the other boy. Her eyes... They were almost empty... Never had that fire towards him. So Renji lowered his head, knowing his place.
So this was how it was going to be...
She still didn't see him... And probably she never would. He was jealous, but it was okay... As long as he could see her.
