Chapter 1-Night of Darkness
The night was dark and the hour was late. Lily Potter had just put Harry to bed, and she was sitting by the fireplace with James, her mind racing.
There had been a lot of talk about Voldemort and his attacks on the local people...those who wouldn't join his force. She knew that it was only a matter of time before he came to their house.
"James, we need to talk about something important."
"What is it, Lily,"James said, his eyes full of love and concern for her.
Taking a deep breath, she started,"There's something that you don't know..."
Just then the door to their house was blasted away by a powerful force, and Voldemort appeared with two of his followers in tow.
"Well, now, isn't this a cozy scene? Tell me, Lily, have you told James yet about Harry?"
"I knew that it was only a matter of time before you came here, Voldemort."
"Well, I have come to help you make a decision, Lily. Will you join me?"
"You know I will never join you Voldemort!"She retorted, glaring at him,"I will NOT have Harry exposed to this!"She says, running into Harry's nursery and picking him up as to protect him.
"But he has already BEEN exposed, and you know it."
"Voldemort, you RAPED me! That is the only reason you are his father!"
"What are you saying, Lily? I'm not Harry's father?"James said with tears in his eyes.
"Voldemort burst in on me and raped me one day while you were at work,"Lily said, tears forming in her own eyes,"I didn't want you to know because I wanted you to love Harry as if he was your own."
"Oh, Lily, I would have, no matter what,"James said, stepping between Lily and Voldemort.
"Out of my way, Potter! You will NOT stand between me and my son!"Voldemort shouted.
"If you want him, you will have to kill me first."
"Very well,"Voldemort stated, raising his wand and blasting James into the air, sucking the life out of him,"Now, Lily, do you still refuse to join me?"
"I will NEVER join you, Voldemort,"Lily said, running out of the house.
"Then you will join your husband in death, and I will take Harry by force!"He said, striking her turned back with a powerful blast and causing her to fall on her side. He was about to pick Harry off the ground when a bright light appeared, diffusing and parting to reveal Dumbledore.
"Well, Dumbledore, we meet again!"
"Voldemort, this is the last straw!"Dumbledore spoke, raising his wand,"Petrificus totalus!"
Frozen in place, and unable to break Dumbledore's powerful spell, Voldemort was exiled to the Forbidden Forest, held there by a spell that disallowed him to leave.
"Ah, Harry,"Dumbledore said, going over to pick him up off the ground,"What a legacy you carry. We must protect you from your past. Someday I will tell you, when the time is right, the truth about your parents. But for now, we must get you out of this world. I must take you somewhere that you will be safe."
That night, along with Professor McGonnagal and Hagrid, Dumbledore went to London and, under the guise of darkness, left Harry on his aunt and uncle's doorstep with a note.
"I really hate leaving him here, with muggles, but this is where he will be safe, from the curse and from the talk. Eventually he will come back, and be taught at Hogwarts, both magic, and about his past."
