"Daddy, Daddy! Tell me a story!" Georgia Hunt shouted, running into the sitting room.

Gene regarded his daughter, who was now scrambling into his lap. She was only 3, but she was very determined when she wanted something. She had inherited his eyes, so she could easily charm anyone.

"Alright" he said, picking her up. "Let's get you to bed."

They passed Alex on the stairs. "Daddy's going to tell me a story, Mummy" Georgia chirruped.

"That's lovely, baby" Alex replied. "I'll be up in a minute. Promise."

Gene carried Georgia to her room and tucked her into bed. He sat down next to her and asked "which story do you want, sweetheart?"

"Will you make one up for me?"

Gene thought for a moment, then an idea came. "Once there was a beautiful princess called Alexandra" he began. Georgia snuggled up to his side. "All the boys used to look at her. But when they talked to her they found she was much cleverer than the other princesses. So they teased her about it."

"That's not fair, Daddy" Georgia protested sleepily. "It's good to be clever."

"I know, darling" he said. "It gets better, though. Because there was one boy who still thought she was wonderful. He stood up for her when everyone else was mean. They grew closer as time went on, and one day he asked Alexandra to marry him."

"What did she say, Daddy?"

"She said yes. And they both lived happily ever after" he finished. "Night night, sweetheart."

He kissed her forehead and she smiled. "Night, Daddy" she whispered.

He turned round and saw Alex standing in the doorway, smiling. She walked into the room. "Night night, Georgia darling" she murmured, kissing her daughter's cheek.

"Night, Mummy" Georgia mumbled, closing her eyes.

Alex and Gene left the room. As they walked down the stairs, she slid her hand into his. "I'm a beautiful princess, eh?" she asked.

"You know you are, Alex" he murmured.
