This one-shot is a lot shorter with only a little over 300 words but, a story is a story! This one is for the 3rd Nalu week prompt: cuddle! I hope you like it! Read and review!
Her legs threaten to give out from beneath her as she continues to sprint through the darkness, trying to escape the abyss. The celestial mage's breathing is labored and she can tell that her reserves of energy are nearly depleted when, all of a sudden, the ground is gone and she's in the air, plummeting down. A scream is ripped from her throat as she continues to fall, flailing her arms, trying to grasp anything to slow her down when she's being shaken. Her whole body is moving in midair, back and forth, causing her to panic.
"Lucy!"
Now, she's hearing voices and can't tell which way is up and which way is down. Someone has to help her. Only one name comes to her mind and she screams.
"NATSU!"
"Lucy!"
The blonde mage's eyes snap open and they're met with Natsu's worried face directly above hers. It takes her a moment to realize it was all a dream. She's safe in her room with her husband gripping her shoulders in their room in their house in their town. She and Natsu are safe but, after this realization, she can't keep the tears back that are left over from her fear.
"I-It was so real Natsu."
The fire dragonslayer smiles at her softly as he takes his place beside her and pulls her close to him, wrapping his strong arms around her.
"It wasn't, Luce. You're safe and I'm right here."
Lucy takes a shaky breath and lays her head against his chest, hugging him tightly around his waist. She closes her eyes and feels the weight of his hand on the top of her head. The blonde-haired mage smiles and relaxes against her mate, contouring to his body and listening to his heartbeat. The soft heat emanating from his body helps to further relax her muscles as she falls into a deep sleep feeling completely safe in Natsu's arms.
