Janto ~ Last Kiss
A/N - My first Janto story! Set during 1x06: Countrycide. Just after the game of "Who did you last snog?" I don't own Torchwood so character rights to Russel T Davies. Constructive criticism is appreciated, but not hate. Enjoy!
"It's my turn, is it?" Ianto asks. He is met with looks from his colleagues.
"It was Lisa," he continues.
They look at him, a look of guilt and pitying. Anger grows inside of Ianto.
"Ianto, I'm sorry." Gwen says.
"Sorry she's dead or sorry you mentioned it?" Ianto questioned.
"I didn't think-"
"You forgot."
Then comes the awkward silence. It's almost too much to bear. He realises that she was dead long before that day, but it didn't make it any easier. Lisa was the best thing in his life. He felt empty; so, so empty.
"We should get some firewood." Owen says, breaking the silence.
"I'll come with you." Gwen stands, following Owen into the forest.
Ianto can see Jack's glare. He knows it was Jack, but that was private. They didn't need to know. Of course Ianto enjoyed it, but how could he? Lisa was dying, and all he wanted was Jack.
"I'll go and finish off the tent." Tosh says, with a small smile towards Ianto.
He always appreciated Tosh. She was always kind to him, not judgemental, and she didn't pity him. She was kind to him.
"Why'd you lie?" Jack asked. He sounded defensive, but one who didn't know him well would say it was anger.
"It's not their business. Besides, it wasn't anything to bother with." He replied.
"You calling me a bad kisser?" Jack asked, with a bit of a smirk to cover his hurt feelings.
"No," Ianto states defensively.
"It's just...difficult..."
Jack moves to sit next to him. He takes Ianto's hand in his, and looks into Ianto's eyes.
"I know Lisa was important to you. I know she was everything. Believe me, I understand what it's like to lose the love of your life."
Ianto knew he was telling the truth. He could see it in Jack's eyes. He knew that there was no replacing Lisa. He felt as if nothing would ever be right for him again. But right now, he needed Jack. He leaned in, meeting his lips with his own.
The kiss was slow and passionate at first. Ianto felt Jack's tongue slip into his mouth, and the kiss started devolving into a battle for dominance. He wish this could be it, forever. That what he was feeling in this moment would remain forever. That couldn't be the case, as the discovery of a dead body broke up the kiss. They didn't talk about it for the rest of their trip to the Brecon Beacons.
Everyone else had gone home, Jack and Ianto were the only people who remained in the hub. Ianto was busily cleaning the kitchen. He couldn't go home yet. He couldn't face being alone. Not after the horrors he had just seen. He'd seen a lot of things in the universe, but he couldn't believe that his own species was capable of this. Every time he shut his eyes, he saw the freezer in the cellar, all the body parts that had once been people just like him; trapped and scared.
"You still here?" Jack asked.
"There's work to be done." Ianto said, without looking up from his cleaning.
He felt Jack's hand on the small of his back. Jack pressed his lips just behind Ianto's ear. He turned around, and he couldn't hold it in anymore.
A sob escaped Ianto as Jack pulled him into his arms. He pressed his lips to Ianto's forehead, holding them there.
"I can't be alone." Ianto choked.
"You can stay with me. I'm here for you. I always will be." Jack replied.
Fin.
