"Garnet?" Rose asks as she stands behind a meditating Garnet. Rose never felt this unsure since the day after the first attack by Homeworld in attempt to stop the rebellion.
"What is it Rose?" Garnet lets out.
Rose begins to regret her decision to seek out Garnet. What if something goes wrong during his birth? What if something happens before he can be born? Would it all be for nothing? Will they be okay without her? Garnet wouldn't lie to her, would she?
"Can I ask you something?"
Garnet takes a minute to ponder Rose's question. Why now of all times would she need to talk? It must be that time again where she questions herself.
Rose starts to worry when Garnet doesn't answer immediately.
"The last time we had this kind of conversation, you were questioning yourself about the Rebellion," Garnet lets out. "What's your question?"
"Will my child be .. fine?" Rose finally let's out as she struggles to find the right words.
"There's many possibilities where your child comes out fine, but there's possibilities of everything going wrong." Garnet slowly stands. "Rose, what exactly are you asking?"
Rose slowly steps toward to stand by the fusion. Rose has never been intimidated by Garnet, but with the fusion's personality and future vision, Rose can't help but feel a little put off by the fusion gem.
"Will my child be okay?" Rose finally asks.
"He will be fine." Garnet turns toward Rose. "I've seen it, he turns into a strong individual," Garnet tells Rose.
Rose smiles at Garnet's statement with stars in her eyes. Her child will be fine. She will have a healthy, strong boy. Nothing will happen.
"Can I ask you something Rose?" Garnet asks and Rose starts shifting her feet.
"S-Sure Garnet," Rose swallows the lump in her throat.
"Why are you doing this? 5,000 years protecting this planet, why are you choosing to leave it now?"
Rose looks at Garnet with a shocked expression. She never thought about it being worded like that.
"I'm not leaving it, I'm simply transforming myself into one of its inhabitants."
Garnet furrows her brow at Rose's statement. "What do you mean?"
"This world is full of so many possibilities. Each living thing has an entirely unique experience. The sights the see, the sounds they hear. The lives they live are so complicated .. a-and so simple," Rose says with a slight smile on her face.
Garnet didn't understand. "Rose, what are you saying?"
"On Homeword, each gem is massed produced, every gem has the same experience, the same purpose. But on earth each human is individually created, there are none others like them, they each have their own experiences, their own life." Rose stops and smiles to herself.
"We didn't get that chance, but imagine it; imagine having the ability to give birth to something that has the ability to make its own life, its own experiences, and its own choices," Rose continues.
"Even at the risk of your gem, your life?"
Rose smiles at Garnet. "Garnet, answer me this; what did you see earlier?"
Garnet is quiet. She saw a baby Steven with Rose's gem and it glowed as he laughed at them. Then she saw baby Steven singing to them and they're smiling lovingly at him. She didn't think Rose knew.
"I saw your gem in his stomach glow as he laughed at us," Garnet lets out.
"Every moment he loves himself, that's me loving being him. He'll be something extraordinary. He'll be a human being," Rose says. "I'm not gone. I'll be half of him." With that Rose turns to walk away leaving a quiet Garnet alone once again.
