A/N: All right, another one of my one shots as I'm not able to write longer things without having a lack of inspiration. It's Gelphie friendship, but you can look deeper if you like lol

Happy Birthday

Glinda smiled politely and happily, but no one in Shiz had an idea what she really felt. Though her room mate could tell by now pretty well when she faked a smile as only Elphaba received real ones when they were alone. Everyone else pitied her for sharing a room with Elphaba, but she never felt happier. They had not only built up a friendly relationship, but also a very close and honest friendship.

But right now spending time with her green friend seemed impossible as she was surrounded by dozens of people who wanted tp wish her a happy birthday and gave her meaningless gifts just to look good.

She would have a happy birthday ... later when she was alone with the one friend who was her friend, because Glinda was the way she was. Glinda had to work for Elphaba's trust and respect, but by now she had plenty of it. And the green girl had her trust and respect in return for every day she survived in this hell.

"Oh, Miss Glinda! You look beautiful, as always" an overexcited Biq ... no, Boq, exclaimed and handed her twelve red roses.

"Thanks" she gave up to pretend she was happy as no one would notice anyway. Not even Boq who said he cared so much about her. But who was he kidding? He just loved her features like everyone else did besides Elphaba.

She wanted to cry or scream to scare everyone away, but she couldn't. There was a huge lump in her throat she wasn't able to swallow down.

Then she recognized a hint of green in the corner of her eye and turned her head. What she saw made her heart ache. Elphaba was walking slowly through the crowd that surrounded her and more or less all students took some steps back, even her sister.

Glinda had never liked Nessarose.

Despite her anger she didn't and couldn't take her eyes of her stubborn room mate. When Elphaba had approached her the green held out her hand and Glinda took the scoll or piece of paper it had kept safely until then.

"Happy Birthday, my sweet" she whispered only audible for Glinda and turned around to leave again.

Glinda was too stunned to say anything and just unrolled the scroll and what she saw made her cry silently. Her "friends" were too absorbed with Elphaba's sudden appearance they didn't even noticed that.

The blonde found her brain working again and ordered her feet to move or even better run and to her surprise they obeyed. After some seconds she had caught up with Elphaba.

"Elphie!" she called out and the green just turned around to cath a pink ball in her arms.

Though Elphaba was more than surprised she held her friend close and soothingly stroked her hair. "Shh, it's all right, my sweet. No tears" Elphaba said calmly, but had tears in her own eyes.

"Thank you, Elphie!" the blonde whispered softly. "It's perfect. It's the best gift I've ever got."

By now Elphaba had started to cry herself, but didn't think of letting her friend go. Actually the taller girl was more surprised by the fact that Glinda didn't pull away, because by now half of Shiz was watching them, but Glinda didn't seem to care.

And Glinda didn't as she knew that Elphie would always be there for her and that was all she wanted. She softly rested her head on Elphaba's shoulder. "I didn't know you were so good at drawing, Elphie" she stated silently and smiled the first time that day holding the drawing og herself and Elphaba safly in her free hand.
