A steven universe idea just wanted to put this out there for now so here it is updates will be sparse because of other stories so it may be slow going.
It was a usual day in Beach city for Steven and the crystal gems as they sat around doing the usual things. Pearl was polishing her swords, Amethyst was sleeping, Garnet was, well, being Garnet, and Steven was fiddling with one of the small droids Peridot had left at the warp pad. "What else do you think they could do?" Pearl looked at Steven wondering what he meant. "These droids, i mean they fix warp pads but do you think they were made to do anything else." Pearl looked back at her swords before over to Steven. "I don't think they do anything else Steven, they're build for one reason and one only, they can only do what they're made to because thats what makes them what they are. Like this sword, its a weapon made to fight with."
Pearl waved her sword making a few slicing motions to prove her point. "People can do different things but weapons can't, those aren't people Steven they're weapons." Steven shrugged deep in thought about what she said before Garnet came in and awoke Amethyst. "We have a problem." Amethyst groaned loudly. "Can it be solved by doing nothing?" Garnet shook her head and Steven got excited. "Lets go then!" Steven in his excitement ran towards the warp pad before tripping falling into it and activating it by accident. "Steven!" The gems rushed over to it entering the warp stream but couldn't find Steven anywhere. "What do you think happened?" Pearl adopted a thinking pose. "When we warp we usually have a destination or clear place we want to go, but Steven went by accident, he could be in any random location."
Amethyst looked alarmed and frightened. "You mean he could be anywhere!" Garnet put her hand on their shoulders calming them both. "Then we'll look everywhere."
Steven in the mean while was shivering unable to find his way around. The sun was bright but somehow it was snowing heavily and he was cold. "I kn-kn-know!" Steven wrapped himself in his bubble shield protecting him from the snow but not the cold itself he could still see his breath and growing up in Beach city left an aversion to cold. He didn't know how long he wandered of why his eyes started to hurt but Steven had been moving around for hours before finally feeling spent and collapsing his bubble shield dissipating and passed out just before a pair of blue feet appeared in front of him.
When he woke up his eyes felt like they were on fire. As he held his eyes in pain he felt like panicking feeling scared and uncertain. He felt someone by his side whom he hadn't sensed before but somehow could now and his panic left him. "Are you alright?" Steven shook his head no. "Where does it hurt?" Steven held his hands towards his eyes and felt them moved out the way. "This'll help." A hand one larger than Garnet's covered his eyes and he felt an energy flow through it alleviating the pain. "You were out there for to long you have snow blindness now and it'll be awhile before your sight heals." He felt the person move before throwing something heavy and warm at him. "I have a friend not far from here, he might be able to help you but we need to move." Steven gulped hoping he'd made a knew friend. "Who are you?" Who ever he was he suddenly seemed nervous like Steven did. "Right. My name is-
"What do you mean Steven's MISSING?!" Greg Universe was angry, scratch that he was beyond that at this point. "We mean what we said, Steven's missing, he tripped and fell into the warp pad and it activated, but instead of sending him to a specific destination it seems to have taken him somewhere random." Greg started to hyperventilate listening to Garnet. "Relax Greg we have a plan." Pearl laid it out as everyone gathered around. "There are several warp pads all over the world but we've narrowed it down to about six, we need groups to spread out as far as possible to search for him so we gathered all of you. We made sure to search thoroughly the ones to dangerous for you to venture and prepared a list of supplies for the searches in specific locations." Everyone nodded along even though Lars grumbled a little.
"Alright everyone get what you need and get back her we'll warp you to the right areas." Lars finally spoke up after that. "Wait are you crazy one of these zones is hotter than a dessert! And another's colder than the tundra." Saddie elbowed him in the ribs. "Those are a dessert and tundra you Dink!" Lars brushed her aside. "Whatever I'm not helping and thats fin-" Garnet's fist smashed the table into sawdust making everyone jump back. "Sorry my hand slipped." Garnet's hand glowed as she summoned her weapon. "Looks like I'm about to have another one." She pulled her fist back making her message clear. "Fine lets go find Steven." Connie stomped on Lars' foot before leaving turning her nose up to him as she and her family left everyone giving Lars a look of disapproval and shaming. "What did i do?" Saddie elbowed him.
"Yep doesn't look to good." Diamond stood back letting his magic pulse through the room allowing him to see. "What's the bad news doc?" Professor Hamelin shook his head as he put the bandages back on Steven's eyes. "He has snow blindness, its pretty severe to, he has frostbite but its minor and healing up nicely though." Steven looked around nervously feeling a pulse crawl over his skin every once in a while. "Whats snow blindness?" Hamelin sighed as he put away his tools. "Snow blindness is when the snow reflects damaging Ultra violet light back into the eyes, you said you were from Beach city correct?" Steven nodded. "That's probably why." Hamelin sighed. "Since you're from a place with seasonal weather you must no see snow all year like here up in the north. That plus the fact that UV radiation is much higher here than most other parts of the world so your eyes aren't used to the intensity, hence your current condition."
Steven nodded mostly getting what the professor was saying. "My eyes aren't used to the light here and it hurt them?" Diamond nodded that was the general gist of it. "Can you repair the damage doc?" Hamelin shook his head. "Im not that kind of medical doctor, i don't have enough experience to preform optical surgery and even if i did we don't have the equipment necessary for it, however that wont be a problem his sight should return in a few weeks at the most." Diamond sighed that was good news. "Alright then lets pack up ,we gotta get you home." Steven suddenly got nervous. "I cant remember where the warp pad is after i fell in i rolled down a hill and couldn't climb back up." Diamond sighed. "And by now the storms hit full force." Diamond sighed looking at the snow blowing outside having nearly frozen over the windows.
"good the the docs house is so well insulated." Steven nodded as another pulse of magic crawled over his skin. "So what now?" Hamelin stood up. "Now you two stay here and wait for the storm to blow over i doubt you'll be able to find this Warp Pad in this weather even with Diamond to help you and you're blind as an eyeless bat right now." Diamond nodded grabbing Steven's shoulder. "I promise I'll get you home little man but for now i have something that might help you adapt." Steven felt another pulse of magic flow through the room. "I'll teach you to see."
Scene this is where it all starts for Steven and Diamond and it'll be awesome. Now a few things to clear up in here.
one Diamond's name is not pronounced like you'd believe. Instead of D-eye-mund its pronounced Day-mund the reason is when i was a little kid i always misspelled Diamond switching around the i and a to make it seem like it was Daimond the name. Also a reference to the monster el toro mont gommy who was controlled by aliens using a crystal they called a day mund rather than diamond.
2-diamond's personality and powers are based on the gemstone mythos around Diamonds i did allot of research but the general gist is Diamonds are gems of protection power and empathy said to protect people from panic pestilence and enchantment which is how he stopped Steven's pain by presence alone, diamonds respond to the emotions of those around them and returning them good or bad, this is how Diamond sensed steven's pain and panic became nervous himself when Steven did. Like garnets and amethysts diamonds are a birth stone, diamonds are considered the gemstone of truth and victory helping the wearer conquer their enemies and win their battles like how he's helping Steven with his temporary blindness.
3 Diamond is not like a regular gem and is artificially made like Amethyst but is different from her too in a major way the reason why is alluded to in the conversation between Pearl and Steven. Also since false Diamonds exist theres another clue to what Diamond truly is.
