The battlefield was rough, and relentless.
Both sides were tired. Many casualties were made.
Which brings us to Ruby. Who was in love with the enemy. And one fateful day, when Neo was struck down.
Ruby screamed.
Ruby cried.
She sobbed, begged, and pleaded.
Neo was bleeding out in her arms.
A fatal bullet in her chest.
Ruby didn't want to lose Neo.
As Neo didn't want to lose Ruby.
Neo was crying too.
Ruby kept telling Neo to hold on.
That she was going to get help.
Neo gripped Ruby's chest-piece and pulled it.
Ruby looked back at her.
Both sides knew she wasn't going to live through this.
She's lost too much blood.
The bullet is so close to her heart.
Ruby cried harder.
Neo brought her hand up to Ruby's face, gently caressing it.
Ruby held her hand there with her own.
Neo gave Ruby a weak, gentle smile.
Neo's tears pooled like the blood was.
Ruby gave Neo a sad smile.
Sobbing even harder.
Neo moved Ruby's face down to hers.
The two met in a kiss.
When they parted, both parties were crying even more.
Neo leaned next to Ruby's head.
Ruby listened closely, quieting her cries.
"Remember me.."
Ruby choked.
"But don't cry.."
Ruby shuddered.
"This isn't goodbye.."
Ruby muttered a soft 'No.. Please..'
"We'll be in each other's arms again.."
'Please...'
"Wait for me..."
Neo's pulse was slowing, chest getting heavier as her breathing staggered.
'God please why...'
"My lovely rose..."
Her hand went limp.
Ruby's eyes widened in shock, before gripping Neo's hand tightly, bringing Neo to her chest.
She sobbed, and sobbed, and sobbed.
She tilted back her head and screamed.
Screaming for answers on why it had to be her. Why her. Why Neo. Why now.
It shouldn't be like this.
Neo shouldn't be dead.
Ruby would give anything to swap places with her.
To be able to hug her again.
Hear her again.
See her again.
Kiss her again.
But she couldn't.
It was over.
Neo was no more.
And Ruby was too.
On the inside, at least.
Soon enough, Ruby grew silent, holding the now cold Neo to her chest.
Soldiers on Ruby's side found them.
Ruby looked at them with dead eyes.
She begged them to kill her, to end her life.
So she could see Neo once more.
Spend eternity together.
They obviously declined, asking questions.
Ruby told them outright that she loved her.
And she loved Ruby.
And that she was now dead.
Explaining it broke Ruby again.
She reached for her own pistol, attempting to put it up to her head, but the soldiers wrangled it from her.
She begged them to let Neo have a proper burial.
They obliged thankfully.
But it still shouldn't be like this.
Ruby was crying again.
She was hurt.
She was broken.
Her life was over.
Her heart was shattered.
Nothing would be the same.
Not after Neo died.
And nothing was.
But Ruby knew one thing.
She would remember Neo.
She would remember her to the day she died, and beyond.
