Summary: AU Inuyasha is a kid in the 1980s and obsessed with video games. Outside of the game, he is a nobody. Through his electronic lives, his credits, he becomes something.

Okay, this is going to be a serious story. If you are looking for humor, well, this probabaly won't fit the bill. Before you get freaked out by the level of seriousness I must tell you that I'm trying to take a sort of..."educated" approach. Make sense? Didn't think so.

Game Over

1982. Around the peak of the video game craze. Video games weren't just a form of entertainment anymore. They were a way of life. A ritual. People played them, with two hands on the controls, and one foot off the ground. Like holy men. This is a story of just one of the people that followed this craze.A part of the flock. This is a story of a young man that tries so hard to be something. This is a story about his quest. Before I tell you all this tale, though, I must tell you more about this person. His name is Inuyasha, or DOG as his initals said in the highscore slots. Inside the arcade, there is no Inuyasha. There was only DOG. While most of America's youth were shoveling quarters into these machines, these quarter hungry monsters, Inuyasha was special. No, he wasn't best around, though he was pretty good. The reason this young man is special lies in his social life. He isn't an outcast. Nor the most popular kid in school. He is invisable.

Imagine being invisable for a moment. Does it sound cool to you? If it does you are probably thinking about being able to become invisable and visable at your own will. Inuyasha is forced to be invisable. No one pays attention to the kid so into the game that he is playing. No one cares.

I care though. I care enough to catolouge this event. I care, reader, I care. So I will tell you this story, this tale of sadness, torment, and, surpisingly, love.

His eyes glazed over as he clutched the joystick in his hand. He lived quarter to quarter. Those were his life line, his only connection to the real world. Electronic beeps and buzzes whizzed around him. The CRT moniters glowed, the lights flashed, the joystick clicked and suddenly, it stopped. Everything stopped. Game over. Inuyasha grumbled furiously as he searched his pocket. Everything comes to an end sometime. It is just always to soon. He didn't want to return to his life. He didn't want to be the kid that didn't exisit, as far as anyone was concerned. He wanted to be a...a...space pilot. A space pilot in the 25th century. He wanted to be a chef, armed only with a few pinches of pepper. Heck, he wouldn't mind being a ZOO KEEPER, keeping the animals in their cage.

(A/N: These are actual games, FYI)

As the game flashed the words 'Game Over' it silently mocked him.

He banged the control panel in frustration. So close. His name, DOG, was in every slot except for the number one spot. One more bounus and he would have gotten it. Who was in the number one spot, you might be asking. If your not, then I will tell you anyway. Inuyasha didn't know him personally. When I say him, I mean that Inuyasha thought it was a guy. Which makes sense seeing as girls playing video games was sort of a rare sight. However, Inuyasha is wrong. Very wrong indeed. The initals in the number one high score spot was KMH.

And through this obsession that Inuyasha had, not just with video games, but with beating KMH, was this story born.

Before I continue any further, I must tell you Reader that the words "Game Over" will be uttered a lot during this story. You might theink that they are just eight letters. Eight key letters that strikes despair into anyone that reads them. It something about those letters. After they appear, you can just give up. You lost, man.

You lost.
