Edward's POV
"Bella!" I called. I had been searching for her half
the night.
"Bella!" I called again. I heard a sudden
movement.
I turned to see someone streak through the trees. Bella,
I thought. I ran after her. I was hungry but I kept my mind
focused.
I know what you're thinking: Now what on EARTH is
Edward doing in the middle of the forest at night? Well it started
with a simple argument about Bella's safety. I had been arguing
with Carlisle. This is for the most part what happened:
"Bella
needs to GO!" Carlisle yelled at me.
"But she can't!" I
yelled.
"Why?"
"Because, even if we DO take her
somewhere, she'll just come right back!" I screamed.
Then
Bella walked in, we didn't see her in the doorway, we were to busy
arguing.
"Do you want her to be safe or not?" Carlisle yelled
back.
"Yes!" I said, calming down.
"Then she needs to
go." Carlisle said his voice wavering.
"Ok." I said
completely defeated.
"NO!" Bella shrieked.
"I WON'T GO!
EDWARD, YOU SAID YOU WOULD NEVER LEAVE ME!" Bella continued.
"I
also said I wouldn't let anything bad happen to you." I said.
"YES-BUT-BU-" Bella ran out of the room.
I followed her
closely, and that's how I ended up here. Searching for her. Now I'm
following someone who COULD be Bella. When I got close enough, I
reached out and caught her shoulder. I t was Bella.
"LET GO OF
ME!" She yelled at me.
"No come back with me. Please?" I
asked.
"WHY? YOU SAID IT YOURSELF, I HAVE TO GO!" She was
STILL yelling at me.
"Bella-I-" She cut me off.
"WHY? WHY
DO YOU WANT ME TO LEAVE? DO I NOT MATTER ANYMORE?" She broke down
in tears now. She was on her knees, head in hands.
"Bella, I
love you. You should know that!" I scolded.
"NO YOU DON'T!
YOU DON'T LOVE ME! OTHERWISE I COULD STAY WITH YOU!" She
screamed.
I wrapped my arms around her. Good Gracious she was
stubborn! I sat there and held her as she cried into my chest. When
she started to calm down, I kissed the top of her head.
"Bella,
I do love you." I whispered calmly.
"Ho-how d-do I kn-know
that?" She whimpered.
"Because I say so." I said.
"Edward
if you need me to leave I will. As long as you promise me something."
Bella whispered.
"Yes?" I asked.
"Just promise you'll
come back for me." She said.
"I can't make that promiseā¦
because I won't leave you. If you go, I go." I said.
She
smiled, and snuggled into me. I laid my chin gently on top of her
head. Then after a moment, I tilted her head up and kissed her. Then
she snuggled back against me. I leaned against a tree.
And that's
how Bella fell
asleep that night.
