When Radar came Home

A/N: This story was not written to pass English 101 but for the enjoyment of it.

It was Walter "Radar" O'Reilly's first day home in Ottumwa Iowa following his hardship discharge from the Army.

After arriving in San Francisco Radar spent a week at an Army base out-processing. The Army gave him a final medical physical, typed up his discharge papers and gave him his final paycheck. The former company clerk took his last Army paycheck and bought a one-way train ticket back to Ottumwa where a cousin picked him up from the local train station and took him to the O'Reilly farm.

His mother was waiting for him at the house. They hugged for the first time in two years. Mother and son then went out to the family plot in the field behind the house where Uncle Ed was now buried next to Radar's father and grandparents.

"It was a nice funeral Walter". Edna O'Reilly said. "Because your Uncle Ed fought in the Great War the local VFW was there. They put the flag on his coffin and there was man playing the bugle just like you did in Korea."

Back inside the house Mrs. O'Reilly showed her son telegrams sent from Mrs. Potter, The Winchesters, Dr. Daniel Pierce, The Hunnicutts and Both Mr. and Mrs. Houlihan.

"Oh I almost forgot! I have something else for you Walter. A letter came in general delivery for you from someone in Missouri." Mrs. O'Reilly got up and walked into the kitchen. She came back with a plain white envelope with a woman's handwriting on it.

Radar read the return address:

Patty Haven Lt. USA (ret)

153 Haven Farm Road

Lancaster Missouri

Radar ran to the phone and called his cousin's home.

"Aunt Martha this is Walter. Thank you it's good to be home. Is Elmer home? Can I talk to him?

"Elmer this is Walter. Can I borrow your car tomorrow? I'll return it with a full tank of gas. Thanks."

Radar then hung up and finally opened the letter. He then dialed the telephone number he knew would be at the bottom of the page.

"Hello Mr. Haven? I apologize for calling so late but may I speak to Patty please?"

The End.

A/N: What happened next? If you ask nice I might tell you.
