AU for real world, consider that the 2002 Fifa World Cup was held in England, for the sake of the story.
It's written as Ravenclaw Homework for the Hogwarts Online forum.
Not bete-read, please excuse any possible mistake.
Percy would have preferred being anywhere but here. But his boss had asked him to come and he has no other choice than follow the orders.
The new Muggle prime ministry had invited a representative of the Wizard World to attend to the second Football Word Cup England has held since nineteen sixty-six.
It's loud and there is too many people for Percy's tastes, but he has to stay and at least watch the first match of whatever game it is.
He's welcomed by the ministry himself who present him to a young lady who will explain to him the game and everything he needs to know. Her sister is a muggle-born witch and is currently attending Hogwarts for her second year, he learns. Miss Williams is no magic, but she's the only person in the Department of Media Culture and Sport who knows about the Wizard World.
She seems really young and Percy inquires if she's qualified enough to work within the ministry. She's a little offended and informs him she's more than qualified and in fact, she's twenty-seven years old, one year older than him if she's correct.
She did her homework very well and he appreciates it. After that little incident, she explains to him what football is, and really it's maybe dumbest than Quidditch. But he's polite and listens and nods while she talks. She's dedicated to her work and meticulous. She informs him about the basic rules, but also gives him a full history of the World Cup and the sport.
By the time she finishes, it's time to go to the first game. He's pleased to see it really ends after ninety minutes only, he thought it was a kind of joke.
"Ninety minutes of the sport is enough," she says to him when he establishes it.
"You don't like it, Miss Williams?" He's surprised.
"I do like sports, but not this one. Though, I like the world cup event and the team spirits and the rapprochement of all the countries."
She talks to him about varieties of sports and how she's thrilled to organize events like this one, where she can be in touch with people coming from everywhere in the world. And even with wizards.
So it's her turn to listen and discover something new. Her sister updates are mainly about Hogwarts and her friends, and it's nice to know more about the real wizard world.
Percy talks to her briefly about Quidditch, and then goes on and on about the ministry and the war his world just known four years ago.
She's fascinated by Percy's words and before they know it, it's late in the evening and Percy needs to go back.
He returns the day after for the other games even though he had planned only to watch one match. But Audrey-"I insist you call me Audrey"-asked him to come.
They attend to the games of the day, but don't watches them. Audrey learns more about wizards, and Percy discovers muggles.
And to make him discover even more, she proposes to him to come with her at the Wimbledon Championships after the World Cup. It's tennis, a sport she's sure he will like. And of course, he likes it.
