Well, I'm back from vacation and I thought I'd kick things off with a little one shot inspired by the short story "Happy Endings" by Margaret Atwood.

Disclaimer: I own neither the characters of Harry Potter nor Margaret Atwood's "Happy Endings."

Harry and Ginny meet. What happens next? If you want a happy end for both of them go with A.

A. Harry and Ginny fall in love. Harry defeats the Dark Lord, and then marries Ginny. Harry becomes an Auror, and Ginny becomes a medi-witch, or maybe they both become professors. They have three children to whom they are devoted. The children turn out well. Harry and Ginny retire. They go on fun vacations together. They both have hobbies which they find stimulating and challenging. Eventually they die of old age, the end.

Well that was sappy. Let's try another.

B. All continues as in A, but not all of the children turn out well. One of the sons goes Dark, kills his siblings and Mother, and the rest of the story is about how Harry struggle to fight his own son until eventually they kill each other in battle.

That was more interesting. Now let's try something completely different.

C. Harry falls in love with Ginny, but Ginny doesn't love him. She's just using his fame and his family's fortune to get places in the world. Eventually, Ginny conspires with Dumbledore, Ron, and Molly, to get all of Harry's money. Harry is killed, either murdered, or sacrificed for 'The Greater Good' and the four conspirators live in luxury until they die of old age.

D. Things proceed as in C but instead of being killed, Harry is imprisoned for being 'Dark.' In prison, Harry grows resentful of the world and vows revenge. He escapes, kills all those who wronged him, marries either Hermione or Luna, and things continue as in A.

Those were dark. Let's try something else.

E. Harry does not fall in love with Ginny and only sees the girl as his best friends younger sister. Ginny, however, is obsessed with Harry and convinced that they are destined to be together. After they both graduate Ginny begins to stalk Harry, she drives off any competition for his affection. Once Harry is all alone in the world and still won't love Ginny, she kills him, then herself.

No matter how you look at it those endings were all the same. Harry and Ginny die. Don't be fooled by J.K Rowling's ending. "All was well" may be good for a moment, but after "All was well" time had to go on, because her end wasn't final, it still left room for more. The only end is death. How sad. Beginnings are much more fun, and, if done right, the stretch in between can be even better.
