Nightmares
Screaming, shouting and guns firing. It coursed through the once peaceful countryside of Gallifrey like a wild fire in a dry forest. His Rose was there next to him, standing in front of their children, protecting them and he stood in front of her. The metallic creatures drew closer shouting a single word and then he fell. Pain blinding his sight but he knew that they had killed her too. His Rose and his children. Slowly he opened his eyes and looked down at his hands, covered in his blood, but he didn't care because when he looked up he saw her lifeless body, her sightless eyes staring at him with a look of betrayal and fear and anger and most importantly love.
Rose woke to the sound of a dead thump. Not any old dead thump but the sound of someone hitting the floor, hard. The only other people in the TARDIS were Kyran (who was asleep) and Theta. Had Theta collapsed? Slowly Rose looked around and found Theta on the floor, mumbling. He'd fallen off the bed. Suddenly he jerked upright, sweating and gasping for air.
"'S' all right!" Rose comforted, helping him back onto their double bed. He looked at her, his eyes wide, full of fear.
"It was just a bad dream." Rose murmured, rubbing his back gently, he was too tense. Slowly he reached up and rubbed his head with his hands.
"Just a dream." He repeated slowly and relaxed slightly finding Rose's rubbing comforting.
"Yeah, it's over now." Rose replied and he lay back down, facing her now.
"Seemed so real." Rose had never heard Theta so terrified. Whatever it was it had scared him out of his wits.
"I'm here, don't worry.' Rose continued to rub his back before moving on to his shoulders, relieving the tension.
"Sorry, I'm being silly.' Theta apologised.
"It's all right. Honestly Theta, nightmares are perfectly normal." Theta relaxed into her hug enjoying the feel of her hand working on the back of his neck.
"Thanks, I'll remember that." Theta replied and closed his eyes. Rose looked down at his handsome features and kissed him gently before falling down into her place on his chest that seemed almost created for that purpose and fell asleep with him.
