A/N: I decided we needed a little fluff/humour after S6E1 :) Pam doesn't actually appear in this, but I thought if I posted it elsewhere it would be a bit confusing for some people. Also, for the purposes of this story, S4 & 5 don't exist.

Disclaimer: I own nothing.

Who Let The Dogs Out?

Ka-THUNK. Boomfa. Boomfa. Boomfa.

At first, Bill thought he was imagining things; but then the sound came again.

Ka-THUNK. Boomfa. Boomfa. Boomfa.

Bill looked up from the agenda for the quarterly meeting with the sheriffs to see if anyone else had noticed the weird noises coming from outside the meeting room.

Four of the five sheriffs were looking around the room and at each other in confusion. The fifth sheriff, Eric, looked completely indifferent as he kept reading the report from the sheriff of Area 2.

Ka-THUNK. Boomfa. Boomfa. Boomfa.

Bill narrowed his eyes, how was he supposed to start the meeting with that racket going on?

Ka-THUNK. Boomfa. Boomfa. Boomfa.

"Eric, can I speak to you privately for a moment?" Bill asked with forced politeness.

Eric looked up, unconcerned, "Of course my liege," he agreed, standing up to follow him out of the room.

Bill grit his teeth, he could never decide if he should be impressed or annoyed that Eric always managed to make his title sound like a taunt.

Ka-THUNK. Boomfa. Boomfa. Boomfa.

"All right, what did you do?" Bill demanded as the door shut behind them.

Eric raised an eyebrow, "You'll have to be more specific."

"What is that noise?"

"What noise?"

Ka-THUNK. Boomfa. Boomfa. Boomfa.

"That noise."

Eric thought for a moment, "Could be anything," he said after a moment, "this is an old house. How's your plumbing?"

"Eric, I know you know what is going on," Bill insisted.

"Now you're just being paranoid."

Ka-THUNK. Boomfa. Boomfa. Boomfa.

Bill narrowed his eyes as this time he caught a flash of something behind Eric, he glared up at him.

"Did you bring your pet to my house?" he asked sweetly.

"I think you mean Pam's pet," Eric corrected him, just as sweetly, "and why would I do that?"

"Oh, so you're not worried that he'll get lonely?"

"He's a dog," Eric said stiffly.

Before Bill could reply a tennis ball came bouncing down the hallway they were standing in, followed closely by Clifford.

Bill raised an eyebrow at Eric as Clifford brought the ball over to the pair, looking up expectantly.

"He must have followed me here," Eric deadpanned.

Bill looked distinctly unimpressed and was about to comment when Jessica came rushing into the hallway.

"There you are!" she cried delightedly as she caught sight of Clifford who ran over to her with the ball, wagging his tail.

Bill supressed a groan as he took in Jessica's wide smile and bright eyes. She looked up at him from where she was crouching to pat Clifford and he braced himself for the question he knew was coming:

"Bill, can we get a dog?"

...

A/N: Yes 'boomfa' is the technical term for when a Golden Retriever/Labrador is running. Otherwise known as 'gallumphing'
