Katara smiled at the toddler babbling next to her. She ran a hand over his dark, downy hair and pulled a several drops of water from the pond in front of them, using the liquid to clean a small smudge of dirt from his face. He tried in vain to smack the water away.
Raising a wily eyebrow, Katara formed a long water whip, wrapping it loosely around her young son and pushing it this way and that. She laughed as he tried to grab the thin stream of water and pulled it away, making it into the shape of an arrow.
"Daddy!"
Katara smiled as he recognized the symbol, "Yes, sweetie, that's like Daddy's tattoos. Tell me, what does Daddy do again?"
"This!"
Tenzin pushed his arms out before pulling them back in quickly, jumping up and down and spinning around in circles in a toddler's imitation of airbending forms. He ran back and forth and giggled when his mommy got up and tried to catch him.
Finally, Tenzin turned back to his mother, focusing hard on a specific move he had seen his father doing one afternoon. His arms moved in a circle and his tongue poked out between his lips. A small gust of air blew into Katara's face and she sat, still and stunned, for several quiet seconds as Tenzin giggled at his newfound talent.
"Tenzin?"
"Mommy!"
"Can you do that again, sweetie?"
Once more, the toddler waved his arms, and once more, Katara felt the wind picking up before it was blown directly at her. She laughed incredulously, pulling Tenzin into her arms and pressing a loving kiss to his forehead.
"Tenzin, you can airbend! That's amazing!"
"Mommy?" Tenzin asked curiously. He hadn't really thought twice about his new toy…
"Aang!" Katara called towards their living quarters further up the island, "Aang! You might want to see this!"
