Pema looked up at her husband, exhausted, teary-eyed, and smiling. The bundle in her arms squirmed before settling with a small, quiet whimper as Tenzin reached out a long, lone finger and ran it down the bridge of the baby's nose. His eyes were just as misty as hers, and a tear fell as she offered him the newborn.
"It's a girl, Tenzin. We have a daughter," Pema said in a hushed, amazed tone, "Our own little girl."
He radiated love as he looked down to the baby in his arms, "Our Jinora, dear."
"Our Jinora," she agreed quietly, finally succumbing to the exhaustion, knowing that her baby was safe in her father's embrace.
"I'm not the last," she heard him whisper to little, newborn Jinora as she fell into her daze, "Welcome to the world, my darling little airbender."
Pema winced as the baby's cries pierced through her pounding headache left after hours of hard labor, though her heart leapt with complete joy and love upon hearing the gasping squeals. An Acolyte midwife handed the newborn to the mother, grinning down at the pair as mother met daughter for the first time.
Pema was unwrapping the baby from her tightly wound blanket, counting fingers and toes, when Tenzin carried a three year Jinora into the room. She reeled back upon seeing the baby in her mother's arms before rushing forward, almost tripping on her own feet. Tenzin caught her and set her down gently on the bed next to Pema and the new baby, wrapping his arms around his wife and daughters.
"Another girl," he said, awed by the newborn that Jinora was curiously petting, "Whatever shall we name her?"
"Ikki!" Jinora interjected the name of a character in one of her Aunt Kya's stories from the North Pole, "Princess Ikki!"
Pema smiled at her daughter before turning to her husband, "I like Ikki."
"I can't say no to you two, can I?"
"Meelo."
Tenzin and Jinora halted as they walked through the door to meet the newest member of their family. Ikki, eager as ever, wiggled in her father's arms, blowing small puffs of air in his face.
"Meelo. Our son's name is Meelo."
Tenzin continued on, kissing Pema softly. "Of course, dear."
"Meelomeelomeelomeelo!" Ikki chanted, clapping her small hands together in delight.
