Prologue

" If you are wrong, it's not going to end up well for you Sarah. You know that."

She pushed back her dark tresses, her green eyes skimming over the deserted courtyard. Old lanterns glowed brightly, wet brick path shining in it's reflected light. There was no one but the two of them, and Sarah refocused on the woman before her.

" I am not wrong," she said firmly.

" But what if you are? You will die!" the brown haired woman hissed at her.

" I have already considered that" Sarah retorted, before taking a step over to the entrance of the house.

" Please, don't go! I beg you! Sarah, you are not going to come back! He will keep you, won't let you go!" the woman embraced Sarah tightly, holding her with desperate animalistic force.

Sarah halted in her motion, sadly smiling down at her friend.

" Jodie, let go" Sarah told her gently, allowing her friend to cling on to her in the desperate embrace, "He gave me no choice."

Jodie wept. Sarah closed her eyes, and a single tear slipped its way down her cheek. The two stayed like that for a moment more, before the dark haired woman gently tugged her friend away.

"I know you will forget me once I enter the house" Sarah told her, " And I think this is what is the worst of it all. I know I am selfish, but so many years we have known each other… And for you, it will be as if nothing had happened at all…"

" I know why you have to do it… I was such an idiot! I am sorry! I – It should have been me…" Sarah hugged her, soothingly stroking her friend's head.

" It would have happened anyway. He was always there. But know this, before you forget me. I won't stop fighting. The house won't stop me. He won't stop me. I am not meant to be a prisoner. I will get out. I promise you. And I will make you remember. I am going to make everyone remember everything. I promise. But now, you have got to let me go."

Sarah's heart twisted as she saw Jodie's utterly devastated face. She turned away from her only friend, and looked at the old English mansion. Tall, greystone vision of architecture, one she used to admire from far, now loomed over her threatiningly. In all her dreams, Sarah knew that this day would one day arrive.

She knew. Taking careful, seemingly calm steps, she reached the steps leading to the front doors. Reaching out, she turned the knob, felt the doors giving in to her, slowly creaking open.

She looked out into the darkness inside, before entering, leaving the weeping Jodie behind her.

She knew this would happen.

And she was always prepared for everything.

"Goblin King, Goblin King. Wherether you may be, be wary and ready for me. At last we will meet."
