"I'm home!" A voice rang from the front door.
I'm home. It was such a simple term, such a common and familiar phrase that people used all the time. But to Reborn, it sounded foreign and strange.
He had never warranted the use of this phrase. Having been moving around constantly for the most part of his childhood and being alone for the later part of his life.
He didn't really had a 'home' per se only somewhere to stay, somewhere to spend his time. His apartment was more of a place to sleep at than anything else.
Reborn didn't have a home. Nor did he have anyone to use the phrase 'I'm home' on.
The voice from the front door, now became a presence outside the door of the room. Tsuna, now 19, had come back to Namimori, for the first time after becoming Decimo, during a break to visit his hometown as well as his mother. Reborn, being the all responsible tutor and loving partner, came along with him to visit his future mother-in-law as well as the town that he had spent some time in as well.
Considering that the last time Nana had seen him was when Reborn was shorter than her knee level, it was surprising that she hadn't even bat an eyelash when Reborn introduced himself as the baby that had stayed in her house all those months ago as her son's tutor.
And she had been ecstatic, when Tsuna broke the news to her that the two of them were dating.
It was no wonder Tsuna was a sky element despite his father's lack of genes in that area. Tsuna took after his mother in every aspect: kind, caring, accepting.
The ever expanding sky.
"Reborn?"
Tsuna's head of unruly brown hair poked into the room, his tone inquiring.
"Oh there you are. I was wondering why you were not downstairs, Mom's making lunch, what do you want to eat?"
Reborn stared at Tsuna, for the moment caught speechless by how domestic this moment was.
Reborn had never imagined that one day he would be in a warm environment like this, with the one person he loved the most asking him what he wanted his mother to make.
It was so awfully domestic and heart warming that for that moment, Reborn couldn't help but thank all the forces in the world for allowing him to meet these wonderful people.
All these colours that poured into his black and white life made him blind with happiness.
"Reborn? You alright?"
Reborn shifted his focus to Tsuna, and let out one of his rare smiles.
"Yeah. Tell Mama anything is fine."
"Ok." Tsuna returned the smile and went down the stairs, presumably to help his mother out with lunch.
Reborn used to be someone who never had a home, someone who never needed to use the phrase 'I'm home'.
But coming to the small quiet town called Namimori, meeting the wonderful pair of mother and son, had given him somewhere he could belong.
And Tsuna had made him realised, that home wasn't a place. It wasn't a house, a palace or a mansion.
It was the family.
And for Reborn, home was but one person.
Someone that he could return to whenever he was tired or needed somewhere to hide from the dark and suffocating world they lived in.
Home was where Tsuna was
A bittersweet little one shot from Reborn's PoV. :D It's a bit short but personally I really liked this one.
