"Guinness. Tap" Danny Messer called his order over the loud crowd in the bar. He was sitting on a stool at the bar, looking around.
"Coming right up!" Called a waitress from behind the bar.
Danny always had the strange feeling that he would run into somebody he knew whenever he was at a bar—and he was always afraid that he would run into them after he had drunk himself silly.
"Vodka Martini. Very dry. Onions and Olives." A girl sighed as she sat down on a stool a few away from Danny.
Danny, who could barely make out the conversation of the couple sitting next to him, could perfectly hear the girl's order as she said it without any noticeable accent.
Wait a sec, I know that voice. But nahh it couldn't be. Montana at a bar?
Just as Danny was about to stand up and go say "Hi" to her, he thought of a better plan.
I'll just wait a little while to see if she is with someone. If not, I'll go over and say hi, if she is, I'll still go and say hi, but make her blush a little. She's cute when she blushes.
Danny turned back to the counter, where his drink was sitting. He sat there for the next few minutes, hoping Lindsay didn't see him, and also hoping that she wasn't with anyone. His eyes kept diverting from the game that was showing on the television to Lindsay.
Lindsay had had a crappy day. Her upstairs neighbor had a water leak that soaked down to her bedroom, and the water in the building had been shut off. She came to work with her hair in a mess and got nothing but jokes the whole day. Then to top it all off she got called to a double murder and had to dumpster dive. It was awful.
She never usually came to bars, but tonight was an exception. She needed to drink herself to sleep, and she had work off tomorrow. She ordered a vodka. Then in a few minutes, another one. She was beginning to feel the effects of the alcohol kicking in; she couldn't think straight and she felt like someone was watching her.
I don't have all night. Thought Danny. Time to make my move. Danny got up from his bar stool and started to walk over to Lindsay.
In those two seconds a gun shot fired and everybody was in a panic. Danny lunged forward and grabbed a startled Lindsay underneath the counter.
"HEY!" she screamed and started to fight back. "LET ME GO!"
"Montana. Calm down." Danny whispered while holding her closely. They were squished underneath the counter now, in very close quarters.
"Danny what the hell just happened?" Lindsay asked alarmedly.
"Gun shot. I don't know which direction." Danny reached into his pocket for his gun but realized he didn't have his badge. "crap. I don't have my badge."
"DON"T MOVE" Somone behind the bar, shouted. "I'VE GOT THE PLACE SURROUNDED.
Well I guess Lindsay and I are gonna be stuck in this position for a while. Thought Danny.
I'm being held hostage in a bar with Danny breathing down my neck. Lindsay sighed.
Things are going to get interesting.
