Shikamaru sighed and rolled to the side. The absence of clouds in the sky left him with a sudden sense of emptiness. Hands behind his head, elbows pointing to the sides, the jonin looked like his usual self: bored and not caring for the world (everything seeming too bothersome). Summers in Konoha could be quite hot. Apparently, today was one of these hot days, when the sky was all blue and the heat was scorchingly dry.
His peaceful time was interrupted by a woman's voice: "Shikamaru, there you are."
The strategist cracked one eye open and saw… Hokage's piggy oinking in front of his face. Not letting it annoy him he slowly sat up.
"Shizune," Shikamaru acknowledged the shinobi standing near the entrance leading down from the roof. "What is it?"
"Hokage has a mission for you." She said with urgency in her voice. The piggy oinked seriously at him and trotted back to Shizune, who bent down and picked it up.
Shikamaru suppressed a yawn and stood up from the comfortable bench. Hands almost instantly snuggled into his pockets and he looked up at the cloudless sky once more. A light frown appeared on his face.
"I have a bad feeling about this..."

"Shikamaru, I am assigning you for this mission due to your exceptional mind." The woman said seriously and reclined in her chair.
Shikamaru stood there for a few seconds, wheals turning in his head. Unfortunately, he did not come up with the answer to the question he himself had raised. He slowly began: "But wouldn't it be better to assign Ino or…"
"I have chosen you for this mission, Sikamaru. Are you questioning my judgment?"
"No, Lady Hokage, I just thought that Ino's or Sakura's abilities would be better suited for this kind of mission."
The villager's leader frowned and countered: "Shikamaru Nara, it is a serious situation. There is a possibility of espionage and I am not willing to take the risks." She levelled her gaze with the eyes of a genius ninja. "I've chosen this mission, and assigned it to you because I knew you wouldn't be asking too much questions, and because I knew," She emphasized, "that you will deal with it professionally."
"M'am, the mission target is a shinobi man." Shikamaru pointed out.
"Yes, and? Are you saying that you cannot accomplish this 'C' ranked mission?"
"No, that's not what I mean, Lady Hokage, it's just… too troublesome."
"Buckle up, Nara. All you have to do is seduce the guy and obtain the information we need."
The Jonin almost rolled his eyes. "Yes, Lady Tsunade, I understand." He turned to leave the office. Once the door slid close, he muttered: "Sink or swim what a drag…"
THE END...
