"Hey Seaweed Brain," Annabeth said while staring at Percy's bruised and bloodied body.
"W-wise Girl, hey."
Annabeth just sat next to him, his hand cradled in her's. She tried to hold back the tears that threatened to drench her shirt but it seemed impossible. Seeing him laying there, looking so broken. She knew he should be dead.
He comforted her, even though it should be the opposite. Percy knew what was coming, how could he not? Kronos wasn't giving up; he had failed Olympus. Worse. He had failed Annabeth. She had so much faith in him. He thought that just her love would propel him and give him enough to win. Seems it doesn't work like that.
He thought of all the things he should've done differently. Not even just in fighting Kronos, just in life. He should've told Annabeth he loved her sooner, he should've given her everything she ever wanted. He was 16, he didn't expect to be knocking on Hades' door so soon.
He glanced at her sobbing form at his side. She was always so strong. He hated that he made her this way. She sat up, sniffling while giving him a sad smile.
"You know I love you right?" Her head shot up, and eyes as wide as saucers.
"No, Percy Jackson, you are not giving me this talk. You're going to be fine, and everything's going to be okay. You're gonna defeat Kronos and save Camp Half-Blood and, and, and. You are not allowed to leave me, Percy. I-I don't know what I'd do without you."
"Annabeth," he sucked in a big gulp of air. He didn't want to admit how terrified he was. He didn't want to leave Annabeth, he didn't want to leave anyone. He hated how she was acting. It was so out of character and just, not Annabeth. "My Wise Girl. You and I know I'm not gonna make it through this. And, I just need you to try and get out of here. I know it won't do much, but I need you to get as far away from here as possible. Guam, or maybe Australia. Take your dad and go. We can't win, and I want you to have as much chance as you possibly can."
"Percy, I'm not gonna leave you."
"Dammit Annabeth, I'm not gonna be here much longer." Big mistake; him getting so frustrated started a coughing fit. "I love you, and I'm not gonna lay here, well, I am gonna lay here literally, but that's not the point. You're not gonna stay here and get yourself killed. I will not allow it, Annabeth. Call it my dying wish. I just want you to make it out alive."
She cried, knowing that this was it. He was going to make her leave and he wasn't gonna take no for an answer. She kissed him and held him while she cried. How could she possibly leave him? Did he not get that she loved him?
"I don't wanna leave you. I just can't leave you here while I save myself."
"You can and you will. Please go."
"I love you."
Inner turmoil struck within him. He wished she could stay with him until he had passed but that was just selfish, making her see him like that. He shook the thought from his mind and laced his fingers through his for the last time.
"I love you too, my Wise Girl."
