AUTUMN
Autumn was by far the worst. It was Autumn when Chi-Chi went. Some leaves were still clinging tightly to their branches when she was laid to rest, and Goku would never forget the dead leaves that raged around them as they mourned the loss of mother, wife, and friend. It wasn't until the rest had left, save Vegeta, that Goku finally collapsed to his knees.
"I should have been there more for her; been a better husband, been a better father." Vegeta offered no sympathetic words or condolences. He simply placed his hand on the other Sayian's shoulder.
Goku wept.
WINTER
Winter could be worse than Autumn. Vegeta despised the holiday season and would do anything to escape. Goku spent every December tracking him across the galaxy. It was always the same argument, that lead to the fight, the retreat of shame, just for Vegeta to show up New Year's Eve with a small trinket he found on a distant planet, saying his usual, "It looked foolish enough for you to enjoy."
The first year Goku didn't go searching for him Vegeta showed up on Christmas day looking ruffled and full of spite.
"Dad!"
"Not a word Kakkarot."
Goku only grinned.
SPRING
Bulma went in Spring. It was proper that it was a beautiful day when she left the world. Vegeta held her hand till she was gone.
"Learn to be happy; for me", were her final words. While we were standing in front of her fresh grave he turned to me.
"What the fuck did she mean? Do I look like I could ever be happy?" I kissed him quickly, before I lost my nerve. He should have punched me, but instead he kicked the ground.
"Stupid woman." He put his head on my chest, and let me hold him close.
SUMMER
Summer was always the best. The almost constant spars, sleeping under the stars, taking baths in nearby springs, and the closeness these things brought. Goku always loved watching Vegeta's naked sweat covered chest, but under the unrelenting sun was when it shimmered the best.
"Oi Vegeta, isn't summer the best?" The prince rolled his eyes.
"Silence your non-sense and fight me." Goku pinned him to the ground.
"I had another type of sparring in mind." Vegeta gave him a smirk.
"No matter, I'll still beat you."
Either way, as long as he had his prince, Goku was still a winner.
