Author's Note: This is not my best writing but I had to write something in the spirit of Christmas. Reviews make great presents by the way...

Why did I agree to go to this stupid party, Kate wondered for the millionth time. She didn't even have a date since Josh decided to break it off with her. She was miserable watching all the couples dancing around and having a good time.

"Hey, it's Christmas. You should be smiling," Castle said, startling her out of her gloom. "It's the most wonderful time of the year!"

Beckett laughed. "You wouldn't say that if you were a cop."

"It can't be that bad."

"Wanna bet? Murder, suicide, shoplifting, theft. Just about every precinct has its hands full."

"Point taken but you're missing all the good things. It's a holiday about family, friends, food, fun and presents. It's supposed to make you feel good."

"God, you sound like a Hallmark card."

"I'll take that as a compliment."

They became engrossed in conversation until a voice interrupted them.

"Oh, look at you two beneath the mistletoe. Now, Richard, darling, you know it's tradition."

"Martha, I'm sure Ca- Rick doesn't want to-"

"Nonsense. He's been wanting to since the day you two met. Now kiss and get it over with."

"What about Gina," Kate asked, feeling uncomfortable beneath Martha's stare.

"Richard, haven't you told her about the two of you? Honestly. She's been gone for two weeks. Met some guy named Josh and they hit it off. Now are you two going to kiss or do I have to get the lovely Doctor Parish over here?"

Castle and Beckett turned to face one another and leaned in for a kiss. It was quick, lasting about three seconds but it was enough to send a rush of blood to Kate's head and, as they pulled apart, she looked around the room and saw Lanie, Esposito, Martha, Ryan, and Montgomery all cheering.

"I think my mother and our coworkers have been conspiring," Castle whispered.

"Then let's not disappoint them," Kate said and captured Castle's lips once again with her own.
